Helloo again, my clutch isnt particularly amazing but I am convinced the cable is badly stretched as it is fully adjusted on both the lower and the clipon adjustment bit, it doesnt slip it just doesnt disengage fully so the cable must be stretched.

My question is... can you just replace the cable so I can get it to disengage properly or do you have to replace the clutch and cable at same time

You can just replace the Cable. I cant see why you would need to Change the clutch unless it was knackered, but I suspect theres probably plenty of life in it yet.

It isnt that Difficult a job to do at all, replacing the Clutch Cable, and i would do that first before you check anything else..

They do stretch and can become badly adjusted.

How old is the clutch?

I dont know if I am honest, I would hazard a guess at .. OLD honestly I would love to change it but I dont feel I have the skill

But seriously, change the cable first and then try it.
The clutch on my bike i believe is still the one it came out the factory with 15 years ago, and it is fine. I havent even adjusted it at all over the last 7'000 miles of use...

the clutch cable is easy to relpace, a piece of piss to be honest. just undo it at the clip on and at the other end, then tape the lower end of the new cable onto the upper end of the old cable (nearest to the clip on).
then pull the old cable out from the bottom and it will route the new cable in the correct path.
then hey presto, smooth job boi
