Split link OR Rivet link

Hi

Coming from motocross background, split links were the only thing we knew off. With the ease of cleaning in mind, does anyone use split links on the NC?

All comments/experiences are appreciated.

Cheers
Jamoto

definately rivet link!
I had a split link come apart on me at 80mph on the motorway- it made a right mess of everything - just lucky it didn't wrap around the front sproket and smash the engine casings.

Even rivet links scare me, and i would say Hard link over a rivet link, and wouldnt even trust a split link on my 125LC that doesnt move.
If you have access to a whale brand link hammer, then a hard link looks just like an endless OE chain. safe as houses

Hi, I've used split link chains on all my bikes for the past 20 years (god that makes me feel old!) and never had a problem( including a cam chain).
Cheers

If installed properly then there should be no problems.

I've seen a few on backwards, a big no-no!

If you have to use split link make sure saftey wire it so that it cant come loose. I have always used rivet links and I would put alittle red RTV Silicone on it just to be on the safe side.

i used split links for over 10 years without any drama .. broke a few chains but it was never the link that gave out .. then i had a chain last year that "lost" 3 split links in the space of about a month .. it never fully came apart but i'd look down at the lights and find that the clip wasnt there anymore.. (was a renthal motocross chain though) havent used one since.. but i'd say correctly installed they should be fine.
