3EN2 restricted how?

Hi fizzer-fans :)

Quick question on the 3EN2. How is the FZR restricted for top-speed? I recall reading in the dim & distant past that some greybikes are restricted in the clocks and won't run without them. I'm not bothered by the resriction, I just want to make sure I don't come a cropper when installing this into a car without using the bike's speedo cluster etc.

Pete.

The restictio is in the back of the speedo - there's a disc that rotates with the needle.

The CDI needs to pick up 0 kmh when the ignitions on or will restrict to 12,500rpm in all gears. The top end restriction is at 180kmh (112mph) and the CDI cuts the spark to one or two cyls (probably two as that would just be one coil)

You can either fit the speedo - although that will be a bit difficult in the car as it will have to move off 0 kmh or the cdi will think it's still on the stand.
Fit a M-Max restriction box into the loom that plugs into the back or the speedo
Fit a derestricted CDI - from a 2TK (FZR400R SP)

Hmm, food for thought.

What I'm thinking, is that I might be able to strip-down the cluster and remove the speedo and set that in my dash in a custom-made bezel. I could then drive that from my speedo take-off on the diff and calibrate it using my GPS, and print up a fairly accurate mph face for the clocks.

How feasible do you think this sounds? I guess it all hinges on the difference in cable rotational speed per wheel rotation (and the respective wheel sizes).

... um .... or fit a M_Max box in the loom

that's the 8/5 gear reduction box for the cable drive yes? Not much point using that until I have figured the turn rate of the car's cable . It only has 12 inch wheels for a start.

It's a resistor that mimics the output from the speedo tricking the CDI

Have you got any details on this mate. I'd rather not have to pay daft money for a restrictor in a shiny package. All those early 'busa/TL/gixxer TRE's were just a 6.8k resistor potted in a tube.

I've always been lucky and found a converter.

I'd rather discard the clocks completely TBH.

replace it with a tdr900 front sprocket sensor and clocks or an r6 clocks.
