Ive just brought an engine an running gear for a gk76a and was wandering if someone could send some pictures of the cdi and the wires going into it as the loom I have has been cut there and I cannot tell where to plug it in.

Ummm do you know if it was a single plug into the CDI or two plugs? i.e. is the engine and CDI from an SP model?

I had a similar problem when my battery was a bit duff, when the starter motor was in use even though it would turn the engine over ok there was no juice left to fire up the coils. If this is the problem it should bump start, or if you had a boost charger you could give it a bit of help while you try to start it.

Yea thats what I thought at first but I put a new battery in and still no luck. I did manage to bump start it eventually with the choke on but as soon as I let the choke off the bike died as if the kill switch had been hit. Ill have a try at bypassing the kill switch and see how that goes.

Have you got a good earth to the starter motor/engine, might cause some problems like that maybe? How dim do the lights go when you are turning the engine over with the starter motor? Might point towards a bad connection in the loom somewhere causing a voltage drop to the CDI or coils etc

Yeah checkearth wires and they seem fine. I havent got any lights to hook up so thats not a problem. I bypassed the kiill switch and still same problem so I tested the killswitch wires with a siren and when the siren is connected to the orange/white wire it isnt as loud as it should be so im going to dig into that.

That does sound like some sort of voltage drop somewhere, I Guess check all the connections for corrosion/good contact and check for broken wires. Do you know if the loom is good, you said it had the CDI plug cut off, are you sure you have wired it up right?
