VFR400 OR RVF400
I know this one has been done to death and existing owners will tend towards their own bike, but is there much to choose between the 2.
I know the carbs and suspension are different and being later, the 35s are generally in better condition, but are they any better to own and ride and would it be a worthwhile upgrade from my nc30. Is there a difference between nc35 model years.
I want a UK NC but they are rare and expensive, owners suggest £3,500 for a nice one but they are not selling, and my dealer got £5,000 for one, which I thought was too much.
Would a 35 for the same price [ £3,500 ] be a reasonable option, or little better than my existing R3L import, a cracking little bike.
Thanks,
Dave.

Re: VFR400 OR RVF400
I've got an NC30 and wouldn't swap it for a 35, let alone sell it and pay more for one!
I wanted a 35 when I was first buying but the budget didn't strech, now I have the 30 and I'm as happy as the preverbial pig!
I think it comes down to what you like the look of most, especially when they can all look like new if you have a bottomless bag of moneh.
I do like the RVF but the VFRs looks have become what I love most about them!
EDIT - Stick with your VFR man

Re: VFR400 OR RVF400
Had both, and while there are benefits of the RVF, inc its more upto date looks, easier to work on slightly, it also had downsides to me. bodywork was a bit more fidly to remove (the seat unit and tail joiner is just nasty), proportions to me dont look quite right for some reason, build quality not quite the same, but they rode similar and i couldnt say one handles better than the other in all fairness to being a big jessy, but the NC sure felt faster up top and a bit more "alive" if you know what i mean.
You can afford one dave, buy one and see what you think, if its not as exciting or as radical as you hoped punt it on.

That is probably how it will end up, I tend to buy a new bike and keep the old one until I am sure which I prefer, but end up likeing both, so keeping them.
Pauls suggestion, as ever, is the simple solution, just do it.

Re: VFR400 OR RVF400
stick with what you have dave ,
i've ridden my mates 35 and my wifes 35 and to be honest i'd rather stick with my 30's over both of them,i'm not saying they are bad bikes, both are in excellent condition and as fresh as a daisy but they just lack something that i get when i ride a 30.
they sound similar but the 30 sounds a little more "raw" and not "watered" down like the 35
they ride similar but the 30 has a bit more of a "pull" when the power comes in not like the steady rise of the 35,which i think makes the bike feel deceptive to ride, you hear it revving, see the needles spin around and up but the bike just doesn't feel like your going fast, where as my 30's sound like your being stupid when you normally are and they feel like it also
i don't think they are any different to work on
yes the 35 has it's plus points,it's looks (last time i checked you couldn't see how well it looked when you where riding it down the road so why consider it) upsidedownforks (again they look well but i'm happier with a set the work well rather than what they look like) and the carbs and cams,if you really wanted to you could sourch them and fit them
ok i own 3 '30's so i'm maybe a bit diased but the extra you spend to get a 35 doesn't cut it when you could spend the extra on a 30 and make a better bike
+ 1 for keeping the '30 dave

Re: VFR400 OR RVF400
Everytime i've gone to buy a bike i've never bought what i went out to buy, i think you should buy what you thinks best, last road bike i got was a 2004 R1 i went to buy a 2001 R1 but managed to get the 04'' for good money.
Go with your gut feelings, as for the 35, i race one and i know how well they handle and how well it goes :D :D

Spike told me of a UK NC30 on ebay, but by the time I got in it was sold, bugger.

Re: VFR400 OR RVF400
My ideal 400
1989 NC30 in the RWB or uk bike
RVF heads and carbs and gearbox but retaining nicely finished NC30 casings
Rebuilt refreshed NC30 forks
Aftermarket rear shock
Yamamoto Pipe full or 3/4
Retain 18" rear wheel to keep it looking in proportion and not some whopping long tail unit.
silhoutte nosecone and single seat unit in the proper NC30 RWB colours
All other bits OE and in superb condition
THE END
