Endurance style headlight setup on a NC35

Im after fitting a endurance style headlight into my track faring, after searching with no joy for a decent looking aftermarket headlight im thinking a single NC30 headlight would look best.
Ive never seen a nc30 headlight assembly so for those you have can the single headlight be removed? and what will i be left with to fix it to a SES front subframe?

Also will just the left headlight give me hi and low beam?

The RVF haedlight unit is 1 piece, unlike the VFR 2 piece. A few on here have gone down this route, most recently Tanuki. If I'm not mistaken, he chopped his headlight in 2 and kept the 1 working one. You will high high and dipped bean from 1 light (smae bulbs as VFR and RVF and I only run 1 headlight) but to answer will it fit to your meter-stay. I've no idea.

Im not to worried about fixing it to the subframe as i'll make brackets up to suit, just wondered what fixings would be left after removing the headlight or chopping it in half.

How do you find riding at night with the one headlight? would HID be possible on the NC?

1 headlight is fine. The bulbs are shit anyway so whats the harm in loosing 1 of them :D

Monkey, it might be easier to use a standard front subframe because 1 headlight will bolt on easily (assuming your ses subframe is a race one).

I'm doing this at the moment using an rvf track fairing, will upload some pics early next week if you like.

Stickshift, I had thought of that but ive just brought the nice shinny light SES race meter stay and although im turning my trackbike into a track/road bike i still wanna keep the weight down. The SES kit is light as a feather compared to the hacked up standard one that was on there. Plan is to strip down the light unit as much as poss and make up some brackets to hold the light to the meter stay. Also going to be junking as much of the clock unit as poss and mounting them in carbon fibre along with a GPS road angel for the speedo.

Be interested to see your pics, what size hole did you/are you cutting in the faring?

My bro modded this rvf track fairing to take a couple of lights for road use.

The problem you face trying to adapt a light to a track fairing is that the light/s can’t butt up close to the fairing because of the angle, so he fibreglassed some pvc plumbing pipe to the fairing (similar to std fairing setup).

This was done a good few years ago (2003?). It was first attempt at fibreglass work, I was very impressed at the time, but as you learn more it now seems like a piece of piss. The outside light is from a Honda car but now using a standard bulb (there was no HID kits then!):





Since then he’s done plenty of better work. I haven’t worked with f/g much (have helped him here and there and could do it, but why bother when someone else can for you!?), but I’d encourage anyone to give it a go, it’s certainly not difficult just time consuming.

Start with f/g, and only then move on to carbon! It’s still time consuming even when you have the skills, no doubt why carbon products cost a bit.

The yellow number board was painted for racing purposes, but I thought it looked too good to let go racing, so I swapped him a tyga race fairing for it.
The fairing is an old Aussie design, silhouette style but with extra clearance for an oversized top radiator.

I’ll resurrect it to good condition, the screw holes were for carbon covers over the light holes (which I have) for racing - the outside one would is perfect for my bullet cam!

Great pics stickshift, just what im planning to do.

Im a plumber by trade and was considering using some soil pipe for the light housing, ive done a fair bit of fiberglassing in the past and just found a decent online supplier for carbon materials so may give it a go in carbon. I want to make some sort of clock housing from carbon so may try include the headlight mount into that.

The original plan was just to put a day time mot on my trackbike but the plan has kinda got out of control, i started modifing the race loom to take a rear light and indicators but it was seriously bodged by the previous owner and im now half way through making my own loom to suit my needs. Lightness is top of the list in this project but i still want everything to look factory finish.

How does your front faring differ from a standard RVF part? the front looks a lot sharper and a touch wider.

How does your front faring differ from a standard RVF part? the front looks a lot sharper and a touch wider.

It's about 8cm wider than a standard rvf unit, gives it that silhouette style look.

It also has much larger air inlets and the area around the top radiator is more slab sided and wider.

Lush!!!! Love the Matt black look, professional spray or rattler job? looks ace. I'm tempted to strip mine back and do it like that! Dull question but what's it like to clean? noticed a slight continuity error going on with your mudguard there as well? Would cutting out the hole to fit an RVF light shape instead of an nc30 one mean it sat flush to the fairing. Would mean you dididnt need the pvc tubing. My fairing has a similar tube section built in but again uses an nc30 light fitting.
