Reg/Rec relocation?

When I got my NC30 last summer I found that the seat of my bike had been stuck on with gaffa tape as the lugs were broken. I got some new panels cheap from ebay but they have never fitted properley, I could only get 5/6 bolts in at best. Today I decided to find out why. This is the reg/rec fitted to my bike :o

I looked in my haynes manual and it is massive compared to the standard one. Now I know Honda reg/recs are useless, and that someone has put this on after market, but can anyone identify it? Also, the size of the unit is partly to blame for the ill fitting panels. Has anyone relocated theirs is there a reason it is located there?

Possible relocation to here?:

On the inside of the right panel there is what I suppose is some kind of insulation, is this mandatory? In the pic below you can see that the coolant bottle has indented it, is it ok to remove this stuff? I assume ppl who repair and repaint fairings dont have this at all?

Also, anyone got a spare one of these?

I have just had my panels sprayed and allof the insulation was just masked off, I dont know really what it does so its your call on the removal, the little rubber gromits will be available new still from Honda.

As for the relocation of the reg rect where you have sugested I would say is a bad idea it is after all a heatsynch and needs at least a little airflow to keep it cool.

More importantly it needs to be mounted to the frame as it dumps heat into the frame.

it doesnt have to be attatched to the frame just to something where it will get airflow...the NC29 for instance its attatched to the exhaust hanger and the one on my trackbike is carbon and that works fine.

heres mine on the RVF

Yours is a much better fit! Hopefully in the picture you can see that mine takes up the whole bracket....I'll go take a photo of the inside of the fairing...

Looks like a Yamaha unit, R6 or similar. Much larger, but much better, I have one fitted but I don't use a standard subframe.

It looks like the same as mine and genuine honda and one from a UK NC30 or a RC30.
Try moving it backwards slightly if poss the UK one fits a few inches back on raised lugs from the subframe (different subframe) but could be easily adapted
