Wiring conundrum on a race bike

I followed instructions which Greggo kindly emailed me regarding removing the ignition switch and running the bike through the kill switch on the handlebar. I’ve now got a question that wasn't covered in Greg's excellent instructions and I hope someone can answer it for me.
My question is regarding the blue/orange wire which ‘normally’ runs from the ignition switch to the fuse box – through the fuse and back through a black/blue wire to the fan... [In Greg's instructions I soldered this blue/orange wire to the yellow/red wire which comes from the kill switch] ...However as I’ve removed the fan and subsequently the black/blue wire, does this mean that I can cut out the blue/orange wire altogether, as it now runs to one end of a fuse and that’s it.
Am I right in thinking that the blue/orange wire gets soldered to the and yellow/red (kill switch wires) because you can then keep the fan?
Hope this makes sense to someone.
