WEAK SPARK OR NO FUEL ON NUMBER 1
the bikes not running on number 1 (or intermittent) as when you pull the lead, the bike cuts out.
Serviced the new RRSP at the weekend, oil, filter, plugs, coolant
Fitted the coil from my other RRSP, still no different, then fitted the new bike coil to my other RRSP, it runs fine. so thats the coil ok
the manual says, test coil with multimeter that Ive done, also kill switch, ignition switch, side stand switch, still to do these!
as the bike lies to that side on side stand, I was thinking it could be the carb gummed up.
So its not the coil, or plugs (fitted new) it has to be electric, or carb.
Im familiar with the other carbs, but the ones fitted to this bike or different, anyone know where the float bowl is on them.
Think EVIL said they are flatside carbs, and the bike is a 95 RRSP.
gonna pull the carbs of tonight, and have a peep,
anything to look out for?

The flatslides are basicaly the same as your other carbs without the diaphragm.

Re: WEAK SPARK OR NO FUEL ON NUMBER 1
took the carbs off the bike last night, and removed the bowls, there was a load of gasket sealant wrapped around float no 1. Someone must have used gasket sealant that is suitable for petrol. (must have removed sealant, that would fill a match box, loads of it!
anyway removed this, and the gaskets, as they were shit, made new gaskets using a sealant kit (small rubber tubing) cleaned the bowls, alot or rusty deposits.
Fitted the carbs again, petrol leak at number four, (this because I fitted it and removed it again) dont think it sealed a second time, I will make a new one
The bike didnt start, would I have unset anything by taking bowls off, and blowing out carb with air compressor! (cant see this causing any probs.
(just thinking, I adjusted the idle screw, wonder if it too low!

Re: WEAK SPARK OR NO FUEL ON NUMBER 1
I'm not sure about flatsides but when my CV float bowl gaskets were leaking they affected the starting and the idle.
I'd be inclined to sort float bowl No4 and install the carbs. Turn on the ignition and allow the fuel pump to cycle then turn the kill switch to off and back on so the fuel pump cycles again. The pump should slow as the bowls fill - then start with the choke normally.
If this doesn't work try using some carb cleaner to start the bike on - if it runs on the cleaner then you'll know it's fuel.

Re: WEAK SPARK OR NO FUEL ON NUMBER 1
yep no probs, I let the bowls fill up by priming them last night, thought it had soomething to do with starting,
Will try it on carb cleaner, that stuff in the bowl, had to be the problem,
will cure the leak, and refit them, fingers crossed,
Cheers for the advice, Thanks

Just checking, did you unscrew the jets when you cleaned the carbies ?

Re: WEAK SPARK OR NO FUEL ON NUMBER 1
no, didnt touch them, didnt want to upset them too much. blew abit of compressed air about them.
Im sort of confident that the leak, is causing it, but will remove the carbs again, and have another look.
All I did was remove bowls and cleaned, made sure the float was not blocked, made new gasket and fitted
If I remove the jet, will it go back in the same position, have a jet cleaner, so could do if suggested?

Re: WEAK SPARK OR NO FUEL ON NUMBER 1
To clean the carbies you really have to strip then down and clean and inspect each system. Carbi cleaner will get rid of gum but if the have a bit of gasket blocking one of the tubes, compress air is the best way. you want to remove all the jets, float, float needle and seat, slide and slide needle, choke, mixture screw. Its a good idea to draw a diagram marking were ever thing goes. Give the body a good clean with your carbi cleaner and use air to check that each orifice is clear. If you have a manual that helps. Soak the jets because you can get a coating of gum in them which will restricts the flow. check the float height and adjust the mixture scree to the default which is 2.5 turns from closed ( I think). Reassemble and bobs your uncle.
Its a good idea to do the same with all the carbies and check that the four slide needles are all on the same notch, the jets are all the same and float are all set at the same height Check that the slides are working and not getting stuck.
P.S check that your battery is fully charged
