VFR 400 Project - NC24
Hey, been meaning to document a project for some time now and as my nc29 is basically done
I now needed another bike to feed my crack like addiction of playing in the garage.
Got myself a VFR400 nc24

I got this as a project and knew it was not in good condition!!
Did a bit of research and found out that the two main things that go wrong are the rectifiers/alternators and the exhaust collector box.
checked out the exhaust and found this:

and an invisible rectifier (must have melted away) - so looking like £60 for reg and gotta get myself a new collector box between £100 - £180
As i began to remove more of the bits around found some bodged rearsets

And even worse a broken engine mount - will need to be drilled out when engine is removed

Apart from that the forks are in very good condition with basically new seals


Both wheels have been painted and standard is good - didnt manage to stay in the lines on the rear one tho


Next is getting the engine out and get it cleaned up also all broken bolts drilled out! will need to order a few bits and enquire about getting my collector box welded.

Did you paint the wheels / subframe!?

Are you messing with it for the joy of messing? Otherwise you might be better off selling it / breaking it?
You can get a decent NC24 with tax / mot for around £400.00
If you do like messing have fun :) If you need any tech info feel free to ask! However, these bikes don't fetch much due to the popularity of the NC30/35

this is just a fun project for me, not looking to turn a profit or anything.

hey thats fantastic mate, quitting smoking and buying that, good man me says!
nc24 hmm should be good once your finished, looks like a state now mind. hate to see any bike in this condition considering it would have been beautiful leaving the showroom...suppose it happends to all vehicles if not held in high regard ey?
abuse of any NC should be punishable...BY DEATH!

Just a quick update as i have been neglecting this thread a bit
Engine out today:


tried to drill out the broken engine bolt using the torx head in hole method


to no avail
any ideas - its in very tight and rusted to hell - sat in WD40 till i next get a go at it.
On a good note ordered new battery, generator, and starter solinoid all that were either dead or missing from the engine.
gonna send the collector box to local garage to weld and fix up, previous owner only welded the link pipe to the collector box
so had to be ripped apart and probally either cut down or get a new one!!!

You do realise that the forks should protrude above the top yoke and that the clip-ons therefore also go above the top yoke.Honda have actually provided two grooves at the top of the forks to show you where the clip-ons mount.The way yours is at the moment the front of the bike is sitting higher than it should; so is the geometry correct? and also does the speedo cable reach the front wheel properly on full lock?
