So, not only is this my first project but my first post too! Thought I'd show you guys what I'm doing. Also, when I inevitably get stuck I'm sure someone will help. Anyway, I'll tell you the plan. Stripping and cleaning the carb. Gonna put some RVF pistons in (which obviously means taking out the engine... ARGH). 600 shock on the rear and racetech fork internals with preload adjusters from Graeme France. Sporty end can (I kinda like the idea of the stubby beowulf one but I've had many mixed emotions on stubby's), can't afford a full system atm. Braided lines, needs new friction plates and chain and sprockets (I wanna go 2 teeth up on the rear). That's about it really other than just a general clean up, will probably replace most of the bearing's.

Reason for doing all this is, I had a crash in April. I'm also starting a Motorcycle Engineering course at the end of Sept so this is like revision!

Exhausts off. Gonna have to give the engine a real good scrub when I get it out.


Tried drilling a hole through the bolt and then used a reverse threaded easy out tool... Didn't work. So just drilled a bigger hole and tapped it.

Anyway, gonna change the clutch plates and springs next. Then take the engine out. Carb's done, except I'm waiting on some gaskets. Fork bit's and bob's should be in the post.

It sounds like youve got a fair amount you want to do! Most of the stuff you are doing doesnt sound too difficult but are you sure the RVF pistons are a good idea? If the engine is working ok then why split it and make changes that may lessen its reliability.

Well, the engine is ok but not at it's best... Really could do with a good clean cos all over the bikes so down on power. This is also like revision for me because I'm starting a Motorcycle Engineering course soon... and I'm just very curious.

Ok. So, the carbs completely clean and I've taken the clutch cover off. Got new friction plates and steel plates only to find my pressure plate is broken! So a new one is on it's way from DS Spares. My fork internals arrived as did a few gaskets. Looking for a rear shock now. Wont be doing anything for the next to weeks as this week I'm in the Lake District and next week I'm going camping. So just a little update. Oh, and I'm seriously thinking of getting the new Tyga kit for the NC23... Looks good I think. Photo's up in a while.

Bought them anyway (that's including postage).

I was going to post regarding the bottoms and calipers...

If you get decent condition bottoms and a set of nice and clean gold calipers then with it being delivered it is probably just about (only just) worth it.

You could have bought a complete set of forks and a complete set of brakes for that...but they might have beena bit scabby..

They were in decent nick and the callipers are gold, so will match my wheels. Might paint things though. But that's not high up on the list atm.
