help won't go past 150 km/h

Post by Strikmabill »

besides being (really) hard to start when cold and when it hits reserve (even hot) i have another problem. it won't go past 150 km/h. i bought new clocks from ebay that came in mph and had a metal plaque behind the speedometer(?) with a gap which i thought would be to limit the speed so i took that off and put my old speedometer that is in km/h in the new clocks. could it be related with the clocks being different in any way? i have no ideia what to do. when i turn the key the bike makes the valve opening sound i think that is what you hear right? at least that is what i was told on my old dt125r. thanks in advance.

What the!. Dude the second key up on the far left of your keyboard is the shift key. How about using it on the first letter
of each sentence. No one wants to help if you cant even be bothered to explain your problem clearly.

1) Ok first question, was the bike doing over 150kph before you started fucking around with the clocks?

2) Drain the carbies, wash out the tank, clean the in-tank filter and replace the inline fuel filter. Clean and inspect the sparkplugs. Then report back.

P.s The dt125r is a frigen two stroke, what has it got to do with anything?

in his defence, the servo on a YPVS and an EXUP do sound similar on the cleaning cycle, I think that may be what he means....

a blunt but nonetheless well made point about using proper presentation for the question though...text messaging is creeping into everyday writing and it really really shouldnt

Lower case 'i' in the middle of things written in capitals grrrrrrr!!!!!!!
The restriction in the clocks in inside the clock, it rotates a disc of sorts into a sensor which activates as the speed increases, maybe this has been tampered with and the plate covered the hole they used to access it? Check all of the connections to the cdi and the clocks as if its got a dodgy signal it might affect the restriction. However saying that the restrictor doesnt come in until 180 km/h so probaly not that! The change of speedo shouldn't be a problem as it connects with its own block doesn't it? They were built with km/h clocks so i doubt it would matter! Can you borrow a set of clocks that you know are working to try?
Is your throttle opening fully? Will it rev out in neutral?

It sounds to me like the bike isn't getting a signal from the restrictor at 0 kmh so it's restricting to 12,500 rpm. This would happen in all gears, it could be that the sender in the clocks has been removed ... if you can find a derestrictor that would plug into the loom instead of the clocks and should cure this.

Although there's no standard on these forums sometimes it's difficult to read what's written which could mean you don't get a reply, but we all need to remember this is a bike forum and an FZR400 one at that.

A jolly good point on reflection.

Of all the active forums I'm a member of, this one is the least anally retentive and generally the most helpful and welcoming. It would indeed be a shame to be too aggressive about proper presentation, although good standards of self governance should be encouraged.

fuck me, I should be in politics.

Could I claim X's for fuel pumps and wheel bearings on the taxpayer?...

you may not be allowed a Porsche, but if it was primarily used as a duck house, or the engine as a moat cleaning pump, you should be alright...

tut. none of which is helping this poor chap past 150kmh is it?

off topic nonsense. just like real politics.

Before I mounted the clocks the bike did 190km/h along side a mate's triumph. I've been busy lately but I'll check the plugs and get back here soon. Another thing I noticed was carbs 1 and 4 where dirty, leaking a bit of gasoline next to the drain screw(?) and carbs 2 and 3 are clean. Is it normal for them to leak a bit? I wasn't able to screw them any tighter. Oh and I took the tank out, unscrewed the reserve sensor and the gasoline hose and couldn't find the inner filter, the inline filter is new. As far as revving it goes all the way, at least in neutral. I doubt the problem will be in the clocks because I'm almost sure I swapped all the cables from the old ones to the new because only the 'outter boxes' where damaged in the crash, the speedo and rev counter and all of that was intact. Thank you for your help, I'll see what I can do.

Not the best idea to rev the bike all the way in neutral ...
