Thought I'd drop by and say hi. Just bought a FZR400. It's currently not running but I picked it up for a song so I could not say no. This will be my third 400, I've had 3 NC30s previousley.

I do not really know that much about the Yamaha so am keen to learn.

As a start I've got the following details about the bike. Can any one tell me anything about it.

vin/chassis: 6c91mp0rtvhv30256 (I think this is the Australian compliance plate ref)
engine: 111581wg

Cheers

look on here should tell you what model! engine numbers are unreliable as they mostly all have 1wg on them from what i can tell!

Thanks. Found that site but the VIN that I have does to seem to be listed. I think when the bike is complied in Aust it gets a new complience sticker so that is the number I've been quoted.

I'll collect the bike tomorrow evening so will kow more then.

It does look like one of the later models with the single headlight. It is registered as a black and grey bike so not sure if that helps from a colour scheme for a particular year.

We've got a couple of people from Oz.
After you've picked the bike up take a picture of it (or the frame) and we'll do our best to help.

Pity it took 3 NC30's before getting a Yamaha ;)

Hi danman, I am in NSW, Newcastle. The vin number will not tell you much, because its a grey import the VIN is made up by the importer. The compliance plate should tell you who the importer is/was

Thanks for all the feedback. I assumed the VIN was the importers number. I can't remember who the importer was but the bike did come from Qld mid last year. The speedo say 51,xxx kms

Picked the bike up last night and can tell you the following:
1. Looks like a 3TJ1 as it does not have any suspension adjustment.
2. It has brand new tyres and pads fitted (800km old)
3. The body work looks a little ratty, particularly the top left section of the fairing.
4. The wiring is a bit of a mess under the seat and has some dodgey indicators
5. The radiator only has water in it and the overflow bottle is empty as is the top 2cm of the radiator

So time to clean it up and see if I can get it started.

OK I've been trying to start it but have so far failed. I've done the following:
1. drained tha carbies
2. sparyed them with carby cleaner and drained the excess
3. checked for spark, it has some
4. checked all the fuses
5. connected up to a car battery.

It turns over but does not want to go. Any thoughts?
