Hi all,

I am new on here looking for info on 3EN1 model. I have just bought one in bits from e bay and have already learnt a few things from lurking on here. I have already bought it a 2007 R6 shock (red spring) and blue spot calipers (hope they fit!)

The bike is intended as a cheap project for short circuit trackdays. I am not planning any road use. The bike is mostly standard and complete and I aim to spend the next week or so getting it running and on the dyno. What bhp should I expect if engine is healthy?

The bike has a race end can (no baffle) so I will be fitting a dynojet kit if not done already. Am I likely to need a db killer? (most tracks I ride are 102 /105db) Or is the bike unlikely to be that loud?

What brake pads are recommended for blue spots with standard discs for track use?

With standard front forks, what springs, oil weight and quantity are recommended for track?

Does anyone know standard chain pitch and front / rear sprocket sizes? Usually with track bikes I drop one tooth from front and add one to three to rear. Does this work with FZR400 or does it cost too much top end?

Do I need specific track bodywork for 3EN1 model or will others (FZR600, R6, later FZR400) fit with simple modification? (the simpler the better!) Does anyone have any they want to sell?

Does anyone do (pref adjustable) clips ons for these bikes, or is it possible to shim Harris or similar to fit

Are Bridgestone 090 / Dunlop Alpha 10 still the best, or only choice, for 17" fr /18" rear wheels?

Maybe next winter I will try swapping the swing arm to get a 17 inch rear in order to run Supercorsa's. Given that I am a mechanical numpty which is the easiest conversion and what parts do I need?

Grateful for any opinions you can offer. I live in maidstone, so recommendations for any local engineers / sprayers / miracle workers would also be welcome.

ive got a 3en1 with 17" conversion tis good for the supercorsas and the wet tyres.
the alpha 10's seem to be pretty good and i think both your choices would be the best 2!
you wont need and additional bits for the shock to fit other than a couple of washers and you may need to shave som metal off the corner of the mount for it to fit propa!
i'm running a stumpy can with no baffle and have reaced it a couple of times with no comment on the noise but it's not been official tested!

hh pads in mine and the blus spots should fit as they have 100mm (i think) spacing, i'm using standard calipers braided hoses and bled properly, they stop pretty well with a suzuli master cylinder.

i'd dump the standard fork springs and put progressives and 15w oil as i was lifting the rear into the hairpin at mallory cos the forks were diving so much! they cost about £70 i think we put 10mm more than standard in.

think standard chain is 428 but b and c do a conversion to run 520 that i put on mine.

i run 14/46 at mallory as it gives good balance between acceleration and the straight speed, but its not the longest straight bu i recon you'd do well enough with that.

no one does 3en1 specific track bodywork, i just fibreglassed in the bottom of mine for the acu regs at races but yyou'll not need that for t days. Its dead easy to take out the headlights and fill the holes, thick card in the holes and some vinyl over the top, never know it wasnt track fairing!

r6 might fit, it can be made to fit 3tj's, but a bit of bracketry and i recon it would!

measure the mount holes then type in universal rearsets in ebay, you might find a set that fit! i use standard but i gots long legs!

That is useful stuff. I was going to ask about radial pump to go with blue spots. I have my eye on one off a 05 R1 but am a little worried it may be too fierce? Are there any others I should be looking for?

The other thing I notice is that some sites recommend a 150/60/18 rear as opposed to a 140/70/18. Has anyone tried this on track and is there sufficient clearance? Any change to the handling either good or bad?

mines off a gs 500 i do have a brembo off an r1 that came on my road 3tj, but ive not got it all back together yet to test it properly i suppose it depends on how much control you have on the lever, i think the idea of the 150 is to give a better contact patch and i think a larger tyre on the smaller rim will create a different 'shape' to the tyre but not sure how this is likely to affect the handling or how it will fit, sure ther will be some others along shortly to put me right!

A radial master with the Blue spots should stop you .... almost dead. It's the ratio of the master that will be the deciding factor but for track the R1 should suit. I think the 3en1 will be roughly similar weight with smaller disks (285mm), but a lot of these bikes is suck it and see. If it's to much you can always sell the master.

FZR600 track body work should fit, I'm not to sure about the top fairing you may need the 600's top fairing frame.

You need the raise the back end a bit with the R6 shock

Mostly what you do will depend on what you want from the bike, I doubt you want to spend a fortune as it sounds like you just to have fun on track. Have a look for a ThunderCat / FZS Fazer (early type) front end with the front wheel etc that will give you some bigger discs and adjustable forks.

Hiya, i had a 150 on the back of my 3en1, then changed to a 140 because the 150 highsport wasnt listed. It didnt seem to make any differance on the road but it didnt look as good!
i've got 10wt oil in my standard forks, good for the road but prob a bit soft for track use.
