Just taken the M/C off the bike - striped it down and the seals seem to be ok although they are very soft. I looked down the bore of the M/C and it is scored pretty badly in places - it is almost 23 years old at the end of the day! So I think a rebuild kit would be a waste of time. I think a newer R6 M/C would be the way to go providing thats in good nick too!

I won't desturb the R1 - if I put it back on and it wasn't working right I would never hear the end of it!

I will put another M/C on then run it on a track day, hopefully it beds in as most bits are new!

I will let you know how I get on with it - just purchased a brand new old stock (still in box) R6 master cylinder with the new internals for £39.99, I thought that was rather cheap considering they retail at £130!!

The OE Yamaha 08' onwards R1 items are Brembo radial master cylinders, I got one for mine

Put it all together and still the same if not binding a little more! Bled them till I was blue in the face aswel and there spongey, although fractionally better than last time but not in the same league as the brakes on my brothers NC30! I cannot throw anymore money at the brakes, if I would of know it was going to end like this with the money I have spent I would of got blue spots and bought adaptor plates - I am mega disapointed with them to say the least! I'm just goin to use them from now on and forget about it, hopefully they become better!

Time to step back for a minute. Steel lines, new(er) master, new seals and pistons in the calipers and you can't get a firm lever? Something is being overlooked but I'm not sure what. If it wasn't for that pesky ocean in the way I'd invite you over for a garage session to see if we could sniff out the culprit in my garage. I think finding a friend or buddy that you trust to have a look may be worth the effort, hopefully they'll spot something you've missed.

That is very generous of you! I have tried every technique in the book - cracked all the banjos etc to get rid of any air ontop of the normal bleeding procedure, it is firm but spongey at the same time, I'm almost certain it can be alot better! I have zip tied the lever in today to see if that helps shift the pockets of air, will check tomorrow. If I fail I will take it down the road to a guy that is supposed to be a master at bleeding brakes. I can live with the lever being a bit spongey it's the binding that drives me insane

It's really weird, my brakes are sharp and they should be a lot better than the nc's (not that I've ridden one). My folks are in the West contry, next time I ride down you're welcome to come over ... otherwise I'm in London.
