Thank god that's over and done with! Should have worn a mask really 'cause I don't think that much ally dust down your lungs is good for you. Anyway valves need to go back in, heads back on then I can see hiow badly I've screwed my engine ;)

I hate doing valve clearances. Fitted the heads over the weekend and put the cams back in the heads.

Image

Started torqueing them up so I could measure the clearances and look what happened.

Luckily it wasn't bottomed out so there was no need to drill the stub. I managed to get away with ramming a piece of kitchen roll down on top of it which gave me just enough purchase to get the stub out. Either way it's a bugger but it came out.

After getting it out I re-installed the rear cams with a bolt from the front set and I now have the correct valve clearances in the rear head. Got to get a bolt for the front set and I can do the clearances there then.

Thanks to the lovely Rhory I've been able to reinstall the cams on the front cylinders and therefore check and adjust the valve clearances. The motor turns over fine by hand but before I go and start it up is there anything obvious I should check?

recheck cam timing marks and lube up the cam lobes before starting. You can also run the engine up without ignition to build oilpressure for 30 seconds or so, then flick the killswitch on and away she goes..

hey mate bike looking great, Im thinking about porting the race bike but may wait until next winter for that. just a bit of advice take the choke assemble off and replace it with the large cable tie around the left rear clutch rod, have it poking out under the tank.

that way if you drop it on the left it wont mash up the assemble and mean you cant work the choke and restart the bike
