right, spent the best part of 3 hours clearing shed out this morning for the honda, should have seen the shit that come out, tip run me thinks. honda had a flatty so manedged to borrow a footpump and get enough air in her to wheel round the back. she s all tucked up now in the shed on her abba.
started striping pannels and fk me, what a mess, seized bolts, cracked fairings and lugs everywhere, shame. a good clean up and repair on most of them will see them good i reckon.
started her up with pannels off and after 1 min warm up noticed smoke coming from the back of the engine, hard to say where from but smelt rubbery?? a little worried. might be the exhuast gasket??? but got worse as i left it running so shut her down. anyone have any ideas?? iv hever noticed the smoke before and had her ticking over for 20mins some times but with the pannels on. so never saw it before. checked coolent, bottle was empty!!?? pured in about 200mls of water and blew through the bottle and noticed a slight drip from the rad cap!! dont think it was done up proper. i hope i havent cracked the cylinder cos of no coolent(it apperse there s not any anyway!?) spec with the winter we just had, maybe thats the smoke??
from here....
thats pretty much all that got done today so if anyone has any clue to smoke from the back of engine? looks like 2 of the pipes exit the back, and 2 the front!?
as i start stripng more of her ill get some pics up and even a vid if you like of the smoke i mean and locating. a ittle worried about it tbh. also, can someone tell me what size socket is needed to remove the rear wheel nut?? i didnt have one large enough so called it a day. cheers for reading lads,
shaun

Just pull the fuel pipe out and the vacuum hose, make sure the tap is set to the off position.

i might sound like a complete twat here but whats the chances that a powdercoater could do my wheels with the bearings left in?? i got my front end striped down today and the wheels have new koyo bearings in, shame to take them out . will it make all the grease fall out?? is it doable?
also, on another goodish note, seems the old girls been looked after cos all the screws come undone nicly, all copper greased up and clean axel etc. things are looking up. nothing like the mito bolts i removed last year lol even the disc bolts all come out cleanly, nice.

Don't think it's possible, the heat from baking the PC will melt the rubber seals, which will let the heated (likely liquid) grease come out, which could bugger up the PC, or at best require replacement bearings anyway.
They're under £10 a set anyway, and it's good practice to replace them anyway. Could always pop them out though if they've done very few miles.
If you haven't got a socket yet Halfords should stock a black impact one in 36mm, nice 6 pointed one too, it only cost me about £10 I think

Don't want to sound like a tool, or make you sound like one - but I had the exact same problem when I replaced my exhaust. After the engine being on for about a minute, smoke started coming out - after 2-3 minutes it really started billowing out.
It was WD40. In order to get the bolts to slip in nicely I lathered them in WD40 and inadvertently gave the engine a coating, as soon as it gets slightly warm the oil burns off. Scared me until I realised what it was, sprayed some degreaser on the engine and gave it a wipe as best I could then took it for a spin - sorted.
Either that or your bike is going to explode.

yeah i hear you bill, i could slip the seals off but thats what my worry was, the grease all running out cos of the heat....bollox, shame cos there new for sure! i looked in halfords, they were out, but i ordered one from egay so sjhould be hear tommorrow hopfully. do i need any larger than the 36mm for anything else?? hardnut mentioned a 43mm or somin!? EEKK!!
im thinking now too the burn is just wd but will keep an eye on it cheers all who posted.
been ring around a few places today about powdercoating the wheels, firms and body shops...... all said the same, cant bake the wheels with the bearings in.....but most have said maybe 2 pack the wheels! so leave the bearings in and paint around them. whats peoples thoughts?? on the finish/durability etc.
im 99% sure my mito wheels are 2 pack too cos it was done at a body shop. seems hard enough.
both quotes are coming in about the same too, 70 quid powdercoat and 60-70 for the 2 pack.
