If it looks & feels wrong - change it & filter.
I've been following this thread & either you are incredibly unlucky or you shouldn't be allowed near anything mechanical with a spanner
That said I do respect your perseverance & on here you WILL get the best possible advice & guidance (folks may stop helping if you don't take & at least consider the advice & guidance offered tho - just a friendly word of warning) - the knowledge base 400GB offers is truly fantastic (I'm a daily reader tho I should post more!) So a huge Cheers to all the 400GB regulars for your supurbness
I really look forward to this thread ending & your next one starting with a sorted bike that you have got back to loving.
Keep going mate - you will get there!

I don't like to sound overly mean but do you really lack that much common sense?xivlia wrote:can bad oil cause this?
because ive emptied and reused the same oil about 4 times when i was working on the starter clutch. and the oil is almost in a watery form. its not thick and heavy like it used to be.... and i still havent put new oil in it yet.
Oil to a bike is like blood to a person.
You can easily destroy your engine beyond repair by using bad oil.
If you've noticed it has changed in consistency why are you still using it?
What part of your mind says that it's ok to put it in without even asking anyone if it is still ok? Let alone use the bike. This is the step where you brake things >.<
All of the buyers guides on here state as the number one thing, mileage on the bike doesn't matter as long as its been serviced regularly including frequent oil changes.
Get it changed pronto.
Draining it shouldnt' chagne the texture, only contamination with water / petrol or something else.
Any bits can clog up your oil and filter.. if it's too thin it won't lubricate properly and you'll ruin the insides pretty quick

Re: xivlia's thread of nc30 problems and questions
i understand neo. i wasnt riding anymore like that anyway. but when i did ride it. it was very shit..... bare in mind im not sure if i had told anyone this, but when i went to change my pick ups, one of the pick up mounts where stripped badly. and when i installed the new ones it wasnt as tight as the other pick up.. maybe that one is vibrating or moving inside the engine and causing misfires and making the bike run in two cylinders..... but i dont know how im going to fix this this.... who ever had the bike before me must of stripped that mounting point.... but then that leads on to the fact that even though it was stripped all this time.... it was running without an issue a few months back.. so im a little confused.

When you say its not as tight as the other one please dont tell me the pick up moves by hand? even if its just the slightest movement the thread needs sorting out before you do anything else

well when i tightened the screw on, i tried to move it with my hand and it wouldn't move at all.. i used some force on it too. but i would of through from the bike moving etc. it may have moved. the thing is, im not sure how i am going to sort the thread out.. its really big, much bigger than the other threaded mount. its been messed and fucked about with.

Re: xivlia's thread of nc30 problems and questions
here are more pics of what i mean.
the first pick is the right pick up. notice the huge gap between that the and starter clutch.

second pick up the left one, and its almost touching the starter clutch. but it is NOT touching it.

3rd pick is them both from further away.

Re: xivlia's thread of nc30 problems and questions
Good question regarding the clearance between the starter clutch and pickups. Large clearance will reduce output voltage a low speed. Could cause engine misfire on two cylinders at cranking and low rpm (idle). Once rpm increases the output pickup voltage increases enough to fully run the ignition.
As I have not had this part of the bike apart I cannot be sure how Honda set it up but I would have thought the pickups would be designed to automatically maintain the correct clearance, cannot find a figure in any of the OEM or haynes manuals, so IMO start with a 0.5mm feeler gauge to set the clearance between the starter clutch protrusions and the pickup face. Make sure you have this clearance all around the starter clutch.
As other have suggested, if the bolts threads are oversize then you should have them repaired with thread inserts, otherwisw with time the pickups will work loose and hit the starter clutch.
This might explain why your have had failures. There is a magnetic attraction between the pickup and starter clutch that will pull on the pickup every time a protrusion on the starter clutch passes. Effectively setting up a vibration that will rattle the pickup loose if not tight.
If you have any problems let us know.
