I had some of this on mine, most likley aluminium oxide( posh rust ;) ). You could try a toothbrush/green scotchbright pad and some mild abrasive metalpolish, but once it's eaten through the anodising it'll probs come back unless you keep the bike dry and super clean. You could consider repainting if they are too bad.

Yes, a little bit here and there. It's how aluminum "rusts". Aluminum is great because it can be cleaned up, polished, or re-coated. Never any permanent structural damage. Not like a steel fuel tank. (Actually, the tank came out quite nice. Took awhile but it looks good. I'll always run an inline fuel filter just to be safe.)

Still just cleaning and prepping parts. De-restricted the speedo this weekend. Sold another bike so now I have the necessary funds to go ahead with the re-build! Getting inside the rocker covers to check valve clearances showed the motor to be just as clean on the inside................................Anyone know the type of gasket sealant/adhesive that the factory uses? Seems very light, is this for sealing or just to hold the gaskets in place during assembly?

Whoa.. admiration for your work!!

Quality of the highest degree

Uhm.. I feel bad asking..but I'm trying to get my own bike fixed up & I need a RVF400 loom & pickups for a HRC CDi.. I havea new engine..but no loom & currently my wee gurl is running with an VFR(NC30) engine & HRC Kehlin velocity stacks etc etc.. bolshy as, but blue smoke everywhere..

I never thought it would take so much work to find an engine.. but it did.. I never believed that it would take even more to find the loom.. but it does!!

help :)

Graeme France (username 'France and Li Asia Trading' or summat) will have it all no doubt.

I had so much trouble finding an rvf loom in Australia that I bought a spare. Murphy's law, I now know of 3 others for sale.

You don't need the loom if you're willing to make your own, but you do need the loom cdi plug, the easiest way to get it unfortunately is attached to a loom...

There's little (nothing?) to gain from using the rvf hrc cdi on a VFR engine apparently.

Sorry for the hijack hooligan, looking neato!!

Good job man...

I dont know why but valve's scare me. I've already sync'd the carbs but the with the washer method but valves ehhh... seem so much more complicated/risk for the "oh shit... what have I done" scenario. Maybe you can do a how to guide?

On a good note i got my wheels back from the powdercoater today :D

More pictures, awesome thread!!!

I might be able to help. I DO have a SPARE loom. :o I bought a load of parts off E-bay and it was included. I don't know if it is NC-30 or NC-35 so I'll have to check. I was told it is NC-35. I'll lay it out and take a picture. Check back later.....
