I propose something along these lines, this way our 36mm sockets can still be used and it wont look much different (to the untrained eye that is

)

Im loving this rear axle/nut mod! since i studied product design i cant help but want to improve stuff and ive always thought the rear nut looks messy and the ducati style was the way to go, so WELL DONE for recognising this and improving it in every way - lighter, easier to clean, easier to fit(no split pin) and hollow hub?
Beauty is in the detail!
I would go for a
41mm or
46mm 6 sided nut design for the following reasons:
I think 36mm nut looks a bit small and pathetic, like a baby version of the ducati design. A 41/46mm 6 sided nut would look more substantial and robust and you could remove some of the nuts inner wall thickness (see red line on the pic below), widening the hole diameter, which would look way cool. Also from an aesthetic point of view i think it would match the other 6 sided 46mm nut on the other end of the hub and it looks way neater too!!
Some people like me

dont have a 36mm 24sided socket to fit your design but most people wanting to do this mod will probably have a 41mm socket (used on top yoke) or 46mm socket (used on rear hub).
Might be easier and quicker for you to produce, possibly cheaper?
How many innuendo's are there here!!

Democracy rules so if 46mm AF is more wanted then here is a sample. Dont worry about wall thicknesses etc as I will do a calc once we know what material we are using. My 46 is a plain hex so no fancy 12 point design now.
