Re: Can you see what it is yet
Well I fitted the braided hose from Thunderace on Tuesday and bled them in last night. A bit of a palava but I got to use my bleeding tool and once I'd lifted the calipers up to the level of the clocks I got one of them to give up some air. After that I could get a bit of feeling at the lever so it was ok. Got fluid everywhere though.
Anyway - of to the Ace Cafe tonight to see some Bimota owners and an early start Saturday to go on Hols so that's about it for 2 weeks

Re: Can you see what it is yet
Well 2 weeks was a little optimistic huh. First I was jetlagged then I got a cold so it was Sunday before I got into the garage and then it was just to clean the frame + engine I bought recently. I did find my good mid tail section fairing bit though, I bought it back to the flat and set about patching up the other two with my Plastex kit.

First I made some moulds to cast the missing lugs. Us clean new tin foil and a low temp oven. Squash the mould medium onto the lug and make sure you've got some way of locating on the broken fairing, a screw hole is best.

Rough up the joint for the new lug I cut into the fairing with a scalple

Then place the mould on
And fill the mould with the Plastex. Plastex is a plastic dust that is dissolved by a spirit then when it dries the plastic is left
I used white and clear for these the clear is a little easier to use. Leave it to dry for a while and then ease the mould off

Trim it with a scalple when it's still soft but other wise you'll need a palm sander - I'll be doing this tonight. Ad lib till fade ...

Cold huh and the days are short
I've been on the lookout for some downpipes since I got this bike so when a rusty set turned up on the bay I bit the bullet and bought them.

The first job was to get the worst of the rust off them, I used a brass wheel on a slow drill and then gave them a coat of rust killer.
The next weekend I used a fine grit paper with my Mouse palm sander

And another coat of rust killer

I missed the light or it was raining so I had to wait another week before I painted them

I't not the best set in the world but they'll at least be servicable.

Re: Can you see what it is yet
It was a little while ago but I put a different wiring loom on the bike. The last one had a live patched in from the solenoid to the kill switch and a 1WG reg rec hard wired in. It's a bit of a long job because when I found the wires went in certain way I had to unbolt the plate hanger and the undertray then of the CDI would fall out ... oh how we laughed.

The clutch and brake levers were put on too, with luck I'll get the exhaust can, pillion pegs fuel pump and carbs reinstated this weekend

Re: Can you see what it is yet
nice job on the pipes
i had to get a new/SH set for mine and although the exup had been overhauled and cleaned up, as had the pipes themselves, and tbh were in excellent condition not even any pitting, i still give em a coat of ultra high temp paint every year when i take her clothes of for the pre-MOT inspection, getting rarer and worth keeping in tiptop condition
i changed my loom on mine as well, all i really needed was the starter relay (under left tail panel) but fowlers wanted 57 quid plus the usual, so got a SH loom with relays, fuses the lot attached even down to the rear brake switch for less than that delivered, result, and as it had been stripped from a race bike the loom was as new and had just been sat a while on someone's shelf,
right place right time when they had a clear out

Re: Can you see what it is yet
I reckon an exhaust maker could restore a set of down pipesby cutting the old ones off and welding new ones on. You can see the exup chamber on the 3TJ is stainless so they stay in resonable condition on the outside at least.
I sorted out the frayed exup cable too, put another core in it with new screw on nipple. If I get a good run at it then I should soon be onto doing the bodywork, to cold for painting though.

when i click quote, to comment, the above is what you see, but all that shows in the thread is
"I sorted out the frayed exup cable too, put another core in it with new screw on nipple. If I get a good run at it then I should soon be onto doing the bodywork, to cold for painting though."
anyway your right any decent pipe bender could come up with something to suit, but it's the one off price that'll kill ya, and like you say the valve housing is stainless so you could go for a full on stainless setup but it would cost some more on top
edit: must be too impatient it's there now, strange though
