Piston rings sound like they are gone if all the compressions came back a good 40 psi higher!
Did you notice you were burning oil, or blowing smoke?

Does your crankcase vent have a lot of vapour into the airbox?

so it looks like its safe to say that the problem is diagnosed as piston rings then so !!
