You can't go much wrong by giving the casting marks a general clean up with a dremel and knife edging the ports.

Re: DIY porting and valve reseating
i have a set of heans on my bench today and i am shocked to see how rough and unfinished they are, bits are sticking out with rough cast on the joins and i may not go as far as porting them propperly but jaysus i'm sure the bike would love to have these rough bits removed

Re: DIY porting and valve reseating
looking good my old mate
So, how long did it take per set of 4? Are you replacing the valve guides as well? Who did the twizzling if your wrist is knackered
am looking forwards to getting into mine - on hold right now as I am having a cheesy partay this weekend.
soon, the no9 upgrade and tuning thread will be on the way. Lots of footage and pics of the basics and some of the head work, valves, CDI and fitting the genny from G-Force etc.
more pics..let's see the casting flash removed.

Re: DIY porting and valve reseating
the hands belong to my long suffering friend stu,who seems to get involved in all the things i do,he was there for the Bi-carb bomb,Bi-carb as a rust eater, lightened flywheel, valve clearances and oil cooler....today i am very thank full he came to the house.
the whole thing took about 3 hours,40 minutes at least getting the valves out the heads and an hour per 4 (2 ins/2 outs),it could probably be done so much quicker if we didn't drink so much tea and talk so muchplus we had to make a big for the spring compressor so when the spring is compressed you can remove the collets
yeah stus hands are clean,he normally pushes pens behind a desk unless i get him working on bikes lol
i am interested in getting the cating marks removed but i'm in no rush as i have a bike to rebuild, and you have put me in the mood to do a rebuild thread if your going to do a tuning thread for #9

Re: DIY porting and valve reseating
I modified Nick Graveley's NC35 heads a good while back.He gained an extra 3bhp from it if my memory serves me correctly.
