The exup helps the low and midrange because the natural tuning of the engine is top end .... add to that some flatslides and could make the bike a bit flat until you get it on song.

Ahh right i see i did wonder about the exup valve

On the FZR specifications most FZR's are quoted as having 59bhp. I think the 3tj6 and 3tj7 are quoted as 53bhp is this a different restriction or a lesser tuned motor?

Ah, well you see ....
In 1988 the top speed restriction came in so apart from changing the engines to aid racers there wasn't a lot of point in continuing to update or make any more power, so the factories shook hands on 55hp (I think it was). That's why the rvf400 produces less than the vfr.

Couldn't tell you where the restriction is though, maybe in the CDI but that's just a guess

Sorry Boris, but the flatslides myth is just that, a myth. If they're set up right they're much better than CVs at everything everywhere in the rev range, but the fact that they're more difficult to set up/easier to mess up/less forgiving to lazy riders* has given rise to the internet wisdom that 'flatslides are crap on the road'.

* ie you can't just whack the throttle open and wait for the carbs to catch up like CVs will.

It all depends on the type of Plastic welding you get done

I use a product called Plastech

Where the crack or break is you sand/grind the square edge off to form a V on each side

Then fill with the catalist and filler powder, this makes a bond as strong if not stronger than the original ABS

You then sand back any excess to the original lines

I can be used to fill in missing bits aswell as making lugs for ones that have broken off

I will see if I can find any pics of the stuff I have already done

Yes Kayla I understad about the flatslides but the point would be you'd need to tune them which is fine if the tuner can do it but as you said they can be tricky.

This is the one I sold on the bay - it wasn't as good up close - I'll see if I can find some more pics.

Both the two top mounts had cracked; one of the mirror ears was broken but there the other (on the photo's side) was cracked; the bottom end joining the fairing was broken so I made a new bit; all the screen holes were drilled out to a bigger size so I filled and redrilled them.
I sprayed the white, retouched the red - not a great job but ok from a few paces away, I put a new Yamaha sticker on it.

I used cans to spray it which is ok. I don't mind sticking them together but it might be better to get a sprayer to blow in the paint. Cellulose would be more resistant
