the damage on yours is very similar to the damage i had on mine.have you got the 2 bits missing where the screen mounts-if so it can be repaired,both mine were broken off,but i got a pro to do it-woth every penny!the damage on the nosecone is caused by the headlight mounting bolts being overtightened-its quite common.i reckon that the damage you have could be put right but i would go to a pro to get it done,it will be worth every penny.if it was mine and cash allowing and the decals are available-get it resprayed,a big ask cash wise but look what youve got one of only 500 ever made of the 3tj7 and the rest of the bike is so mint that its begging for it.i know you havent bought it as an investment/museum peice but it would be so worth it-go on take it all to a pro and ask lots of questions-you may be able to get away with just repairing the damage and having just the damaged bits resprayed- i would love to see it after it been done-just post up lots of before and after pics

I haven't got the end bits but I'm going to send both bits to KAS race paint and get it done professionally.

I've put aside a grand to complete it and I simply won't go over it, but the bodywork has to be right and be priority.

Will hunt the decal part numbers out tomorrow and see what happens.

I've heard good things about Snittles decals so will try him if I can't get originals.

glad you got the parts manual its invaluable.when you ring fowlers or granbys for bits you will need to give them your frame number off the headstock.if you havent got the bits for the nosecone there is some one selling 3tj nosecones (pattern i think) new and unpainted on e- bay bit salty though at 130 quid here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-FZR400 ... 3a79e15316 ive got a couple of track ones but the headlight holes have been fibreglassed in (not by me) so cant help you there.at least if you get another nosecone you can give your painters the new one and the old one to copy if they cant fix the damaged edges-maybe someone on here might sell you an original 3tj one as all the nosecones are the same bar paint-good decision on the respray-cant wait to see it finished

I can repair those plastics for you and make new bits for the nose fairing. I did it for the one I sold on e-bay a while back. Then send it off and have the plant blown in.
Uptake to you but I think plastic welding looks a bit rough on the inside and can melt the bodywork.

Paint work never really bothered me, as I knew the wee bike was original, never messed with

I was gonna 600 it, and keep engine and all other sp bits for my first sp see below. its a generation one, official UK bike 1 of 100 produced, its number 25.

Deepending on how original you want this all to look - note the way Yamaha paint, they use a king of one shot where the paint and laquer are all one coat. If you get a paintshop to do it they'll probably paint then lacquer, it looks better because it shines more but it's different to the original.

That's a good point mate. I will wait to hear back from Drew and go from there. Ideally I do want the bodywork original. But I am going to remove the standard exhaust system store it and get a race system on it. It would be rude not to.
