Boris I don't think he is really bothered, just so long as he can get out on the Bike.

Good news is a friend has a Generator cover - I didn't think he had, that's why I asked the forum members.
Managed another ride yesterday and despite it being Bank Holiday the roads were very quiet at the time I went.
All traces of burning oil have now gone away.
Oil change and Generator cover repair this weekend.
Enjoying the Yam a lot at the moment.
Does anyone have suspension set up information for the 3TJ2 its all far too stiff, I know trial and error comes into it but a starting point would be a help.
Must put some time into other bikes now.
Thanks for your help - again!

Good to hear I had an old one but it's rough.
not sure about the suspension - there's the setup manual in the documents library. If you find that to stiff then back off a little and see where you end up. Of course you could just go to a specialist and get them to twiddle it for you, most of them do a ride in ride out service

Generator cover now being painted.
Friend of mine has some fancy instructions on suspension set up - i will advise if they are better than my "finger in the air" settings.
Hope to be back on the road one way or another next week.
Yet again thanks to every one for help and advice.

Your method is better than the "finger up the hoop" method !

Cover painted and back on the bike.
Went to go for early morning ride on Saturday and starter relay stuck closed as I went to set off so i ran into garage got tools and disconnected battery. Friend had one he wasn't using so put that on and repeated the early morning ride routine this morning without the problem - glorious.
New relay ordered.

So here is what I bought and fitted last night.
New Starter Relay / Solonoid Yamaha FZR400 R 86-95 (200658625852) eBay number
scooters-and-bikes | 181178 |
Cracked the bike up and all was good. Switched off the ignition and the the bloody starter motor started throwing over again.
So do I believe that the new Relay is knackered or it's something more than that. I thought I would have a look at the starter switch which I did and all looked good.
I have now put Roland's relay back on and all is good.
Is there some sort of switching that occurs on start up that could be at fault. There appears to be a "lag" between pressing the button and the starter motor throwing over.
Is there anything I should be checking. I just don't think it is coincidental that two relays don't work.
Is there something wrong with the type of relay I ordered?
On the bench the original and new relay both work and don't jam.
I am confused again and don't trust the bike.
Any thoughts
Thanks again.
