Munky - is this kit just for - I presume - the VFR's or for the  NC23 RRK's as well??

EDIT: YES! Just had a gander - 3mm oversize kits for the CBR's, same price!

444cc

Head gaskets would be the next problemo...
We have a fixture to machine oversized head gaskets on our CNC mill for the VFR, RVF and CBR400s.

But....Those pistons are heavy. VERY HEAVY. Don't run them without good rods (Carrillo, Arrow, Pankl, etc.)

I have used Copper for may years on certain engines that I needed a specific thickness. It's hard to find a company now days that makes them custom though. Also, copper itself does not seal. So, I had to use special sealant to make them work. Another good advantage to copper is if you find you need to o-ring the cylinders with wire, it will bute into the copper better.

It's a lot of hassle, and frankly not owrth the time or money unless you have no other option or need some special application/configuration.

I can add to the topic of custom gaskets as I have just been through that very painful process. Cometic agreed to do it and then tried to pull the 'Ohh we can't do it for that price...but we'll do it for this price" game. Rather than just tell me they were not interested in doing it. Let's just say we won the price war and have custom gaskets but the process was more painful than getting the custom pistons out of JE.

Since the relationship is a bit strained at the moment I can not verify that they'll ever sell me another set but the cutting dies are made and they can produce themfor me when I need them. It'll be interesting when it's time to have some more made.

Hi Kenny:
Long time no hear. Hopefully everything is going well for you on the right coast.

Are these a multi-layer gasket like stock? Are they the same thickness as stock (I mean within 0.001")? Do they appear to be flat and burr free? I ask because my past experience with Cometic gaskets is they were full of burrs, much thicker than stock, were warped badly (would not sit flat) and after all that, they leaked. But....this was a couple of decades ago. Maybe things are better now.

To be honest Mike I did not even see them before they went into the bike. They are a multilayer gasket based off the stock gasket just adjusted for our larger pistong diameter. The gasket is also just a tick thinner than stock. I won't have a idea of how well they perform until we get a chance to get some time on the motor.

Aside from my wife dog being in ill health and about to pass on everything on the right coast is good. Hope all is well with you and yours.

I will
Michael, did you get all the sets to send them out, or are they coming directly from Cosworth?
My engine will take quite a while to be assembled, but I can´t wait to have them in my hands!!
