Yes I got same result with swapping coils and different coils from another bike. Compression was 125 psi or there abouts on all 4 (wet)

A wet compression test will check the valves sealing .... how about dry to check the rings, although I guess the engine would use oil and smoke a bit if they'd gone or the cylinder was out of round.

Weird.

HT lead and plug cap / duff plug - but I expect you've swapped all that around when you did the coil swaps.

Checked the flywheel and pickup on the genny - bit of a long shot huh ?
Does the Genesis have a turning fuel tap for reserve ? I'm thinking maybe a protection circuit like the sidestand cut out / clutch switch / neutral sender ???

You know you said in an ealier post how the revcounter ran backwards ... what if this was something like the rev limiter where it cuts in soft by knocking out a cylinder ???
Do you have any parts from a later bike like the 3en1 or 2 on here which could send the wrong signal to the cdi, or invert the revs in anyway .... ? It's a bit tentative I know

All standard stuff bud .the bike has run ok with the clocks as is but that dont mean they are good now I guess.

This is pointing more and more to a carb problem regardless of the starting fluid results.
You did say, on another forum ; you thought you had fixed it when you sealed up the intake with your hand ?

Put it back together when the head gasket arrives and then check out the ignition with the gun ( swapping coils/leads should have eliminated this check)

What did the tacho do exactly when you say it ran backwards ?

In your first post you say it's running rough on 3 cylinders and not at all on no 2, has the bike been layed up for a long time?
It sounds a like carb trouble to me. I had a GSXR 400 with exactly the same symptoms, cold exhaust pipe on idle that warms up when the revs rise. Recheck the pilot circuits and settings maybe try some new O rings as well.

If you have compression and a good spark at all of the plugs it points to probs with the fuel supply.

The tacho sort of wobbled around 1200rpm and then went to zero .if I revved ut it would come to life and then be a little sporadic up down etc

Sounds like a loose or corroded connection.

Yeah as I was typing that I thought the same . Have checked all I can find. The cdi must be getting a signal as its running on 3 surely ??? Istill think an fzr shaped bonfire Iis the way forward :-)
