Re: derestricting the 3tj ignition
I think you could make a derestricter with a 5volt voltage regulator as I think the outline from the speedo seems to need to be held at 5v to stop the limiter kicking in. There a thread on here somewere with which colour wire is the supply and output somewere, i'll have a look tomorrow if you want when I not got a head ache!!!
I think I got a regulator kicking about in me parts box if you want to play.
Cheers

Re: derestricting the 3tj ignition
As I see it, the 4DX CDI is already starting to fetch a premium price - and as M-max and POSH boxes are no longer available, then getting hold of a standard (unrestricted) CDI will become more problematic (read: not cost effective). Which is great news for parts horders, but not for people who just want to enjoy their bike - just look how ridiculous things are with the LC and YPVSKayla850 wrote:You either need to mess with the CDI, fit an M-max/POSH box or mechanical speedo convertor to get around it (or mess with the insides of the speedo and trim the tab back).

So anyone wishing to adjust their ignition is left with a limited number of expensive options - unless someone knows differently?

Whats involved with the internal speedo tab modification?

You say expensive but a m-max or a speedo converter are about £30 each. The 4dx cdi starts from 50 ish but then you could sell your original cdi.

Re: derestricting the 3tj ignition
I did some cdi tests here:

As far as i can tell there is bugger all difference between the standard 3tj cdi and the 'un-restricted' 4dx cdi. I reckon the advance curve and exup settings are the same. The only benefit the 4dx cdi has is that it doesn't have the speed limiter. Bendy's kit copy cdi made more power up top as it runs more advance. Once i get my bike working better i think the kit cdi will give me more of a benefit.
Personally i think the 4dx cdi fetches a false premium. Just remove the speed restrictor circuit board from the speedo, put it somewhere accesible on the bike and put something between the optics on start up then remove it once running. Then the bike is in unrestricted mode. This mod costs nothing, as does trimming the speedo tab down.

Re: derestricting the 3tj ignition
When I get time I'm going to try doing a derestrict leaving the fuel circuit in for you road users but will need 1 of you to test it as I've only got race bikes.

Thanks Evil, thought it was and to think I hunted high & low for one and only after swapping to a 4 DX unit it appears I had one all along!
