It just so happens that the instruments in the top link that i will need are from the person i bought the bike from, he did seem a nice genuine person when i picked the bike up who seemed to know what he was talking about, but obviously didnt realise this problem was deeper that the solenoid.
I will have a look at how badly the loom has been butchered when i get back today, hopefully not too much.
The translucent green wire is indeed the operational wire and connects to the blue and white wire - its a non genuine item hence the random colour.
I will try and get a picture of the main realy etc just incase i am missing something obvious, and yes it looks like the above pic.

That's the puppy ... well it's a black plastic box really.
Check if there's live going up to the starter switch and then bridge the switch itself.

Nick enquired previously if there was a diagnostic for testing the main relay .
Right then,after a bit digging about.
The 3EN2 main relay is the same as used on the 600 3HE as I had previously suspected.P.n 3EN 81950-00
There is a very good diagnostic for testing this in the Clymer manual for the 600.
Simplified version;
Unplug the harness from the relay and use the harness colour codes to identify the corresponding relay pins.
Attach an ohmmeter to the blue and white terminal pins.(corresponding relay pins.)
Take a temporary 12v. + supply from the battery and attach it to the red/white terminal.(corresponding relay pin.)
Take a temporary negative feed from the battery and attach it to the black/yellow terminal.(corresponding relay pin.)
Low resistance/continuity=relay is good.
Infinate resistance/no continuity=relay faulty.
Perform the above test again but;
Attach the negative battery lead to the sky blue terminal.(corresponding relay pin.).
The results are interpreted as the previous test.
The above result will determine what the next test would be in order.
Main ignition.
Engine stop switch.
Neutral switch
Sidestand switch.
Clutch switch.
Start switch.
