Nothing needs to be destroyed unless you want to take this part to pieces....
... and you won't be doing that since you have a replacement.
Just sling it in there and see if it works already!

The tacho itself yes, but to open the instrument casing to replace the tacho (with the one i sent) its just unscrewing 4 screws.
Sorry I mis-read, I thought he wanted to get the actual unit apart not remove it from the casing.

Sorry guys, been busy doing a 5 day training course and
PASSED my mod 2! :D
Cammo wrote:A 'wiring clip' sounds like it's just a bracket to hold the wires out of the way, if it's not there it won't stop the tacho from working.
I think that where this 'wiring clip' is supposed to be attached, it has "BR/W" printed on the tacho housing.
This is it... you can see
any ideas?

The wiring clip has nothing to do with the tacho operating...

well, it mentions it in the Haynes manual and it isn't there. whether it would fix my tacho problem or not, I'd still like to know where it is as I'm sure it must do something?!

You can see a pic of it in the uk service manual, it holds the wiring harness:

Yeah, thanks. as you've seen from my new topic, my bike won't start. I've put the tacho back together just so I could go out and I found out that all necessary wires are still connected. in the picture, the light on the right doesn't work, although I doubt that's a wiring problem.
I think I'll manage without a tacho for a while... getting the bike running is my priority now!!
