Eh ? i would argue that. flat sides make them pretty dire on the road as road bikes as anyone who has owned one / ridden one on the road will agree.
The RC30 is a joy on the road, more so the even smoother 45 which doesn't get too hot in town.
I find the opposite. The OW01 is easier to live with day to day than the RC30/45. I found the 30 I rode to be absolutely horrible at town speeds just like the newer generation Fireblades - no low down guts. The OW01 by contrast was torquey all through the range and will happily cruise at 30 in top. Although, in the 30's favour, it was a little easier on my wrists.

no not at all, but would you not think after actually owning one and riding all i may be somewhat qualified to know the difference which pulls harder low down and easier to ride around town?
I don't think i am the only one in this train of thought either, and in fact anyone with a sane mind will concur the V4 pulls hard low down compared to the ow01 which is stronger up top by quite a margin in standard form. that's kinda what V4's do yeah

But the point is I was commenting on MY OWN experience of both bikes. Why is that so hard to accept? Everyone's riding style is different.
It's just the same as with tyres - you prefer Bridgestone, I prefer Pirelli. That's just the way life is.

Steve i don't doubt you have had countless hours on all the best bikes and racked up millions of miles as your previous life as a test rider / turbo blower upper and various other exciting careers.
But back in the real world, on real bikes on real roads, on real road bikes which are standard, to say the ow01 has better manners, and road usability is just laughable.
Oh yeah i remember the press in 1989 commenting on just how user friendly it was to ride and how gutless the RC was now. sorry my bad.
No one is slating the ow01 or the ZXR, they are excellent bikes but most would agree are better suited to track use than as road bikes.
Anyway from my own perspective (and people can decide who they would choose to believe here if any of them even cared) i have found my RC30 to be a far better road bike, better manners, easier to ride and much faster than my 916 - and to be clear, the 916 is a road bike, not a special like a SP just a strada with a rebuild. Infact i really do think if the RC was offered today even as is with all its warts and all (and i mean oil consumption, and cooling issues) it is still a better road bike that people would use than 90% of the stuff on the market today.
Hey of course like i say i could be talking shite - and what do i know, but with second hand prices as they are and people willing to pay over the odds for knackered examples - well i will leave you to ponder on that food for though

You have your opinion of the bikes, I have mine. That's what these forums are for aren't they? Freedom of speech? Or is this turning into the Fourth Reich now? Just because I don't agree with your opinion (and the majority it seems but that's besides the point), I get all this?
Come on Paul, I thought you were far too mature for this. Maybe I was wrong?

I thought it was only the ZXR-R that was supposed to be crap on the road because they had flat slide carbs, where the base model had round ones? I've never ridden mine, so as yet I don't know just what 'fun' I'll be having with them. But then, the baby RVF has flat slides and it's not that bad at low revs around town....

Way is see it, i speak as i see things, black / white. If i have have no input or valid comment i don't speak - simple really. I don't feel the need to chip in on everything and anything just for the sake of being heard.

Not strictly true, yes the flat sides take some extra effort to setup correctly, and they are better suited to the higher end of the rev range, but the M was a really nice bike, but below 6k (which is what road riding tends to be in towns) it could be said the ZXRR was not that easy to ride.
