Updates -

YB4EI (FZ 750cc) - no worries, went to Cadwell 160mile round trip a couple of weekends ago. Just about ready for a new back tyre now.

YB7 (FZR 400) - Has had a new chain, fitted with no problems and straight. It's missing at low revs and having trouble starting again. I noticed a ticking sound from around the top yoke. Stripped off the fairings and airbox, then noticed the spark was jumping from the end of the coil to the mounting bracket. The insulation in the coil must of broken down, causing the spark to track down to the bracket. New coils have arrived, I'm in the process of fitting them.

FZR 400 2TK - New fuel cap fitted and locks sorted. Put a new clutch in it after frying it on the Practical Sportsbike shootout.

There's a new arrival coming :) After weeks of emails back and forth between couriers, me, and an Italian who 'speeks no ingrish'. I've received an email today saying they've collected the bike. The seller also sent me some pictures. (I bought the bike on the basis of one camera phone photo, lol)

It's a Bimota YB9 SR, fitted with an FZR600 engine.

Cheers, I can't wait for it to arrive.

I started looking at a Bimota YB9 Bellaria that was on ebay. It was in a bit of a state by the looks of the photos and it had purple wheels?!? I thought I'd get it as a project if it went for the right money. It's not the best looking bike Bimota made..

It ended up fetching £1495, which was more than I was willing to pay. I started searching for another YB9 and came across this one in Italy, this time the SR model. It said euroxxxx negotiate! so I sent an offer of less than euroxxxx (for a bit of negotiation) and he accepted it. Courier is around £450, that's to collect the bike, secure it, transport, and unload at my door. The seller has been brilliant. Scanning all documents and emailing them, enclosing the original with the bike for transport, emails back and forth, etc. I'd say all in it'll stand me at about £xxxx

It doesn't have the original paint, winkers, or exhaust can. But I like the paint scheme (Bimota Gobert racing colours), I'd fit a can anyway, and I actually like the look of the small winkers on this. So, alls good. It might even hold or increase in value over time.

It was on ebay.it, but I found it on another website. ( www.subito.it) Click on Veneto (this is near where Bimota are based), then type Bimota into the search bar, I then change from Veneto to tutta l'italia. There's a couple of YB9's one in red the other in yellow, there's even a couple of YB4's :o @ euro 17k.

The YB9 arrived today. I know it's not a 400 but thought I'd add a few more photos. It's in better condition than I thought it would be in. It does need a looking at though as it's not running properly. I've ordered plugs, oil, filters, etc. and I'll probably take the carbs off for a clean (it's stood for a while).

This has an FZR 600 R 4JX engine with Marchesini wheels, brakes are two floating Brembo 320 mm up front and one 230 mm Brembo at the rear, Paioli forks and shock, and bits of carbon fibre.

The YB9SR runs great, starts first time, and sounds ace. I got some better pictures, I know it's a 600, but I'll get to the 400 Bim.

I replaced the coils on the YB7 (FZR400 engine) and it seemed to run OK, but not as smooth as the FZR. I took it out for a few runs last year (Cosford, Cadwell, and a couple of little runs)

Image

A couple of weeks ago I decided the take the carbs off again. I noticed a problem and decided to strip the engine and sort it out.

The engines nearly ready for the rebuild now, just got to lap the valves and a few other jobs.
