Valve clearances need help

Turns out the seller I found on ebay hasn't got shims in sizes I need but found them here, 23€ delivered. A lot better than 65€ from yamaha. Carb rubbers are next.

The Portuguese distributor for Mikuni doesn't have anything like a carb rubber kit and told me to go to Yamaha. Yamaha doesn't have any either. Maybe I'll try hardware stores. If anyone has a better idea I'd be glad to hear it. Cheers.

It's only petrol resistant pipe at the end of the day. measure the internal dia and order some from a race / kit car supplier or demon tweeks

Put new valve shims, camshafts back on and tomorrow I'll get a torque wrench and check clearances again. Is there anyway to make sure the camshafts and chain are in the correct position? I went through a 'little trouble' with the chain, it got tangled up in the lower sprocket although I don't think it jumped any teeth but now I'm not quite sure it's right. When I turn the engine everything sounds and feels like it did before taking it apart. Should it be obvious if the valves touched the pistons? Thanks in advance.

the engine would go "stiff" it the valves touched the pistons ... although they could be 180 deg out.

Have a read of the manual and it will tell you where the cams should be at TDC

But how can i tell where each piston is when I turn the camshafts? The cam lobes seam to be in the correct position (looking from left side of the bike, cam lobes on each cylinder seem to be facing out the bike at a 45º angle (forming a Y) as I rotate it 180º at a time. I don't hear anything hitting in there and I feel the same resistance turning the engine as I felt before I took it apart. I'll have another thorough look at the manual and report back. Thanks.
