This sounds very familiar... Did they happen to say what was wrong?? Can't get to the bottom of my probs yet!

This sounds like the problem my friend is having with his NC30 - starts ok then splutters around 5000 rpm and continues all the way up the rev range. (its not rideable either as it bogs down so much)
Any info from A1Honda would be a gret help!!
What did they do to sort yours out?!

Still not got mine sorted yet.... Checked all the Coils and HT leads as per Haynes manual and all within tolerance for resistance... Took each lead off individually and sparked against the frame and as revs rise to the point of 5000 the spark appears to get smaller/weaker... All cylinders are firing though so surelyt that cuts out the limp home mode theory as the rear leads should surely be dead altogether after 5000rpm..

Any ideas what ould cause the spark to weaken as Revs rise?

Reg/Rec checked at 5000rpm and putting out 14.2v - 14v at idle

May be getting somewhere but too early to tell.... While the bike was running heard the faintest of clicking (like a spark arcing) from the area of the mullti plug from the cdi. Took a hold of the plug and bike died. Definatly a broken wire or bad contact. Didn't have time to explore properly last night but will hopefully get back to it today. Was starting to condsider a replacement CDI but seemed drastic! Gonna have to check each wire from CDI to it source! Aaarggh!

Fingers crossed it'll be an obvious one... Do you think a dodgy connection from CDI would cause the symptoms I described earlier in the thread?

Yes! If it dies when you grabbed the cdi plug, then it's likely that the problem is there, not further down the wire.

Unplug the connector and check to see that all of the wires are pushed in far enough to contact the other connector. The brass contacts connect with a barb, but they can come out and cause problems.

My bet is you'll find the problem here given your description. Good luck!

Finally cracked it!!!! Today is a good day! Thanks to all for the help and advice... The problem...

Solved by a £6 derestrictor from Rick O (thanks Rick).

Cant believe something so simple could reduce the bike to a misfiring lump! Bike now starts, runs and pulls like I never could have imagined! All that remains now is to get the fairing fitted and get a trackday booked before the summers officially over!!
