Cold isn't it and nearly Christmas, so I got sent out to get our tree from the garage. It's at the back so I needed to get a couple of bikes out. That meant having a look at a recent purchase ... which I took back home and polished up a bit.



Which got me to thinking how the damage to this 3TJ was brining me down and that in turn is why I haven't got it tidied up, so I got my abba out and started to fiddle about :)



I've ordered another clipon off the bay, hope it's straight ... still got the left fork in

So let's get this straight, what you're saying is you got told to get the tree out then spent the rest of the afternoon fettling the bikes?

Well, I had to get the bikes out to get to the tree and to get the bikes out I had to move the forks. She didn't want the mudguard in the kitchen so I polished it with a bit of G4 and then a wax ... in the bathroom (she doesn't need to know about that ) So when everything was kinda there it just seemed like that's what should happen.
In the evening I found a replacement clip-on and clutch bracket.

Sunday she decorated the tree ... I fitted the new screen and bent the mirror brace back. I drilled the fitting spools for the BDK mudguard and thought about how it fits. I'll take some pics of it all.

Yeah .... I'm back on this again.
Sliding down the road smashed the alternator cover and the alternator. The serious damage was done to the cases just behind the alternator. It might be a lesson learnt to change the steel bolts for alloy, so they'll snap first ??? Hindsight huh ?
I tried liquid metal but that didn't work so I took the bike to the garage to see if it could have the cases welded with the engine in place. They refused saying it risks starting a fire in the engine cavity and I'd have to strip it down and give them the bare cases.



So in the days between Christmas and Nude Year I got to work. First I spent a couple of hours tidying up and rearranging. The next day my Mission was to drop the engine and take some of the ancillaries off.



Start by stripping as much as I can off the engine on the bike, so oil and (new) alternator cover





Up top tank, saddle, airbox, carbs, exup servo.



Move to the right side of the engine - starter gears







And on to the clutch, battery screwdriver can speed things up a bit











Two bolts can go into the bearing spacer thing making it easier to pull it out, then the flywheel can ... snigga ... come off



A clutch yesterday ... or the day before



Oil pump



Follow the crank back from the starter clutch on the right to the main drive gear inside the crank cases ... that's where the power figure could be taken from, before all the tollerences through the clutch and gearbox.



Now the right side looks like this



Round to the other side then. Front sprocket and EXUP cover off. You can see the core repair from Venhill on the upper cable

Mission kind of complete and this is the damage in question ... Todays mission was to split the cases



Anyway - nice to get it's top off and get my hands on it's cams

So Missions complete.
I've rung the garage up and arranged to take it in on Saturday

Decoke it - I'll probably get the head and barrels skimmed flat and the barrels honed. It all looks ok the piston rings seem ok and move well enough. The clutch felt heavy last time I rode it, my hand hurt but I think that's just me being out of practice.

All looking very impressive. Keep it up mate.
