Wow am shocked by the response,... maybe it's ok then and I should leave it as it is ?

I bought the bike off evilbay from a bloke in Hull, I hadn't even seen the bike but he assured me over phone it was spot on etc.

We agreed price of £2,500 to take it "as-is" and he delivered it on Saturday.

Since then alarm bells have been ringing

Firstly he said the bike had recently had a full service and he has owned it 4 years, but the only paperwork I got was an old MOT and half the log book, whats all that about ? not a single receipt in 4 years of ownership ?

Also theres a dint in the swinger so I knew it had been down at some stage, still I overlooked this.

Pinch bolts have been replaced which also made me think was the originals drilled and wired i.e. as in being used as a track bike ?

Lots of little things have set alarm bells ringing

Last night I decided to HPI it and my fears were confirmed, firstly the bike is coming up as a VF400F not a RVF400, dunno why that is, also the bike is a CAT D write off but I understand that to be just cosmetics and not too bad, it is an 11 year old bike afterall.

Still not rode it yet as no tax and mot, looking forward though to seeing what this V4 is all about

it looks pretty good mate but why o why didnt you hpi it before, its only a cat D so i doubt theres any serious damage but you could have got the price knocked down.
are the parts as new as described in the ad?
was it advertised as hpi clear?
get the frame number checked out too.

I trusted what the guy said on the phone, big mistake.

Fairing looks in awesome condition but the rear seat unit is fibre glass and clearly aftermarket but still good.

It wasnt advertised as hpi clear and I never asked I just trusted what the bloke said on the phone

Everything checks out on the hpi only thing it shows is cat D and log book says its a v4f00f lol but its clearly not, dunno why the log book shows that as the model ?

Even knowing this now, if I had have known at the time I would still have bought it just not nice to find this out afterwards.

Yesterday I went and fetched some fresh fuel for the RVF as the tank was dry as a bone and I also messed around with the rear brake light switch as it was disconnected as it don't quite fit on the rearsets.

Once I sorted that out I took it for an MOT !

I waited nervously for about 35 mins, when the mot tester came in and said ...

All done, nice bike that ....... it's passed

Am well chuffed

On top of that I managed to have me first ever go on it

Riding the V4 is a lot different to the inline 4's, peeps say that the power is all way down, not in this case, mine starts around 6,000rpm and then comes in hard and it just doesn't stop churning out the power

Redline starts at 14,000rpm and stops on the clock at 16,500rpm and I had revs round to 16,000rpm and the bugger was still pulling with no sign of the power dropping off.

I came down this long road near me, down hill to the bottom, hard on the brakes, turned right, got on the gas a bit too soon, felt like bloody Colin Edwards with that sound, wwarrrppppp, warrrrrrrppppppppp I saw two kids in distance stop and turn to look what was comin, head down, up through the gears, managed quite high revs in 4th, me jacket had about blown over me head and I had to slow, man that was already too fast for that stretch of road ... am 100% in love

So check list so far..

Fully Comprehensive Insurance .... Check
12 Months MOT .... Check
12 Months TAX .... (awaiting log book will be done on 1st June in 11 days)

I was right before, ya don't need more than a 600 on the road, hell ya don't even need 400 speed on todays roads that was way too fast for round ere, but man what a buzz

I just wanna go out and play on it right now, tax in 11 days then that should be it
