only if you go over the normal bulb wattage.. normal as in max 50w or what ever they are nower days..
last time i used a "normal bulb" was 6yrs ago!
if you want to fit higher wattage bulbs, the relay mod(*) is a must or every time you replace the switch gear, you will melt the dip switch.
it is an easy mod to do and once its done, you can use what ever bulbs you want. the guys at the auto leky shop asked me if i wanted to keep the relay mod on the bike when they were fitting the HIDs, i said yes as you never know if i will need them again.

(*) wiring only if its really bad/old, again easy to do as its a few simple wires from switches to headlight via a relay.

Sorry mate I'm not good with electrics - what are the best bulbs I can fit by doing the tab bodge, without having to do any mods?

This may help wozza (and me lol)

so ... if the normal bulb is 60/30 (60w full 30w dip), then will it be fine to do the coat hanger/2" nail bodge on the bulb, and fit a 60w50w H4?

If the he is fitted, will a bit of wiring need to be done for the dip supplying 20 more watts through it?
cheers - and sorry for sounding a bit thick :geek:

35/60W are the factory norm for our bikes. so its max is 70W on dip (35x2).
you fit a 50/60W.. thats now 100W going thru the dip switch.. IT WILL MELT!

if your not prepared to do the relay mods (have you asked your local bike shop to do it for you?).. stick to the normal wattage bulbs.
as i have mentioned *I* cant tell you what bulbs to use as my bike has the mods done and i havent used a normal wattage bulb for 5-6 years now. i dont even buy normal bulbs for it as its all HID with ballast kits. i have been down the "i want better headlights" road. i have tried all sorts of bulbs, melted my dip switch 3 times, last bulbs i had were 80/100x2 (mod is a must for these) and a year ago fitted HIDs and they are STILL crap! the only way forward now is to remove the OEM headlight units and replace them with other round headlight units.. but i havent got that far yet.
