My rvf neutral light is like that. Sometimes you can be in neutral and it does not come on and then it will decide to glow after about 6 seconds. Granted it only does this once in awhile but when i first started riding the bike, it did this at a junction outside a big bloody police headquarters and i thought it was in gear, and you know what happened, i twisted the throttle, released the clutch and put my feet on the pegs (all at same time) and went to quickly move off right (a learner lorry driver was coming), then crash and i was now looking at the sky. I get up look at the bike on its side and then the bloody neutral light decides to come on. Had 4 coppers come and help me and man did i feel embarassed. Now had the bike almost 4 years and have tried everything to fix it but still happens now and then, but have learned to live with it. Seems to be a common prob with these little nc's

My 10p is that it is the lamp in the instrument cluster and nothing more serious than that...

Micro-monkey.. that sounds like a ridiculously funny predicament looking back I bet. Made me giggle reading it like a Charlie Chaplin Scetch. LOL

Hope there wasnt any major damage and you found your feet alright afterwards.
As for it bieng a common problem, I havent really heard of it that much before. Been knowledagable to some extent on these bikes now for the last 2 years and have only heard this twice.

I dont suspect it to be the Bulb on the instruments either. the thing does light up after a while, so clearly that works. And there isnt much else to a bulb other than on/off. LOL
My suggestion would be to check the wires and connectors from the nuetral switch to the instrument panel. Either youve got a dodgy/corroded connection on one of the plugs somwhere, or your wire itself has a split somewhere and is shorting or earthing out somewhere. if this is the case, it isnt that difficult to remove the wires and re-install new ones if you really have to, and I cant see other than that what else it would be?

I only wish - but it won't start when the light's out - as if you were still in gear then if a little fiddle with the gear lever / pedal the light comes on and the bike will then start. Help please as the wife is now blaming me!

Luckily hammy the only damage was a crack to the fairing above the mirror mount and a graze on the mirror housing. The steel clipon and the fixed peg of the ses rearset saved the rest of the fairing from any damage. Unluckily though i dropped it on my drive and smashed the right middle, lower and broke the upper fairing about a month later (458 quid though and it was back as good as new). Regarding the neutral prob, i have done all that and no luck, but i should be fitting some gilles clipons and r&g's in the next couple of days so i will have another mooch about.
