it idle's fine just wont rev from there and when it does it wont rev past 6k
have changed the cdi today no difference ,checked all diaphrams in carbs as well
im stumpped

im local to you and im sure with a few tips from CMSJ1 and the others on here we could get it going, trouble is im major busy at the mo so finding time maybe an issue, where are you exactly?

wont rev past 6k, i had this once and it turned out to be a broken wire or fuse blown from what i can remember.

I reckon it is the limp home mode for my remote diagnosis skills...

wullvfr..where are you? we need some electrical info on the speedo conections - orange and black wiring isn't it that caused the limp home mode?

If it is not that..I am stumped at the minute..will think on about it though

the bike is at my brother in laws in loose ilive just otherside of maidstone off tonbridge road

we have limp home built into the evolution ecu
would limp home affect the reving when bike is in neutral and not moving

yes mate.

in the loom on the clocks there is a connector to the speedo - think it has 6 pins - orange line and either brown or black need connecting with a 2.2k resistor to trick the CDI the speedo is there.

This is what the derestrictor boxes do. I am not sure I have chance to go chck my setup tomorrow, but I will try!

Am getting more certain this is it...or the tree I am barking up smells nice!!

for what it is worth..my race bike was doing the same til I realised I never derestricted it..was fine and rev it out, in neutral, and nasty blurgy noises...

my old vfr that i had in 1997 i removed a flag for a sensor in dash ,or maybe that was my rz250r ypvs cant remember as my brain is dieing with old age

rebuild carbs to no affect checked wiring and found a scotch lock joining a orange to a blue wire this is near the cdi unit
doing a search i see that this wire should be connected to a switched live
with this orange wire disconnected would i have the symtoms that i have got ie not reving from idle sometime (mostly never now) and not reving over 6k when riding ?

Yep, that's the limp home/restrictor wire that peeps have been on about.

Hook it up to a switched live and you should be right.

IIRC you should stick a 2.25k resistor between the wire and switched live. Anyone?
