Hi,
Your best bet is to speak to someone about it. with that amount of melting etc its only a matter of time before something catches fire.
If you do want to do it yourself, its probably best to take the carbs off and make sure there is nothing amiss - Jets fallen out and that sort of thing.

m8..
stop riding that bike until this is sorted!
you have a possible fire hazard and serious accident waiting to happen!
Ask Mr Edwards how he likes his nuts roasted?

I gave you the number of Graham France earlier in this post i suggest you use it before either the bike gives up or worse the bike gives up taking you with it

Some Questions
Have you ever seen your air box before?
What dose your bike rev to in gear?
Can you pull away at 2000 rpm?
How bad is your flat spot?
Please answer

i will give hime a call, i cudnt before because my phone was cut off.

.
im pretty sure the air box wasnt melted before i had it.
It will pull away at 2000rpm fine .In gear, the bike will rev all the way to the redline. the plat spot is from 5-7000rpm,
when im in the flatspot, it just splutters quiet badly, then, if you give it hand full it will rev out of the flatspot, and quite hapily rev all the way up, but sounds spluttery on the over run when the revs drop around 7000rpm. i think its getting worse now though, the carbs are going to get overhauled this weekend and set up hopefully, and get it on the dyno, and try and sort the fueling out. ive got a feeling its running extremly rich, slightly, lol. im going to go to the people that sold me the bike. But when i bought it, it wasnt running to badly, this is a propblem that is steadily getting worse i think.

The only things I could think of is is camshaft timing or broken carb springs. But you would have serous running problems witch you don't have.
Your airbox top looks like its come from a breakers with the writing on it.
Is their any sings of previous fire damage anywhere else i.e. soot or blistering on seat or underneath the tank has it got new fuel lines/pump ect.

having taken a 2nd look at the pics.
like Waza4 the writing on the air box is normally from a breakers yard. but why would anyone want to buy a buggered air box?
it would seem that you bought the bike with that already fitted in that state.
as to your bike running like shit.. have you recently fitted end can, K&N air filter, new headers or carbs to the bike?
all the above would require you to have the bike re-set up to run properly with any of the listed changed.

Maybe it's "Beggars can't be choosers" whatever it takes to get it out the door!
Or was it just the airbox lid from the breakers?

i know i have never heard of an air box melting in the 7 odd years of owning a NC or being a member of this forum.... yes its really been that long!
i think its a 2nd hand one from a burnt bike. prev owners may not know if they never checked under the bonnet! but then maybe they fitted it... at least you can still get in contact with your prev owners, mine moved years ago.
