Yeah that's the same stuff I've got. Was hoping to empty the oil and remove the plugs last night but got called in to do overtime at work. Gonna hopefully get it done tomorrow afternoon and see what it looks like.Evilchicken0 wrote:Ah - I use Halfords concentrate, which is pink for alloy engines

Emptied the oil and removed the oil filter tonight. Doesn't look milky or contaminated from what I can tell. Does look very dark though like it hasn't been changed in a very long time. Going to order some fresh oil and a new filter. Tomorrow morning i'll remove the spark plugs and inspect them.Evilchicken0 wrote:You can check the coolant by taking the top off the radiator, if there's brown sludge / foam in there that's the oil. Same if you take the oil filler cap off.
When you cleaned the carbs did you take the jets out and clean them, or just get the crap out of the bowls ? Have you changed the fuel filter (it's cheap)
It's not "easy" to do the valves, ask around if there's somebody to help you. I would use a FZR600 manual to guide you through it. Do the other stuff first, if that doesn't work then we'll get into this

Looks interesting from their website. Wonder how expensive it is in comparisonWraith wrote:Does anyone else use Evans Waterless Coolant ?

More expensive, the bikes don't really need it so just use standard coolant or concentrate mixed 1:3 with distilled water

Yeah i'll keep with the coolant I've already got. Ok so this afternoon I've removed all the spark plugs and they all look very black and sooty across the top. I've attached a pic.Evilchicken0 wrote:More expensive, the bikes don't really need it so just use standard coolant or concentrate mixed 1:3 with distilled water

I don't think the head gaskets blown.
I say the carbs could do with a good clean and be set to standard. I'd look at the valve tollerances

That's good to hear then! I've ordered some new spark plugs, fresh engine oil and new oil filter today. Have completely removed the carbs again and opened each float bowl and unscrewed each jet and given them a good spray with carb cleaner making sure I can see through each jet. I've also ordered some new pan head screws for the float bowls as the ones currently on there are looking knackered and getting more and more stripped.Evilchicken0 wrote:I don't think the head gaskets blown.

One thing I noticed when cleaning the jets is that the two outer bowls main jets have 92.5 stamped on them while the two middle main jets have 90 stamped on them. Does that seem right? I've also reset the fuel/air mixture screw to 2.5 turns

Yes the jets are right - the coresponding needles are different too.

Brilliant, you certainly know your stuff mate! I'll let you know once I've installed all the new bits. You reckon it's a worth paying a bit of money to get a mobile mechanic to check the valves?Evilchicken0 wrote:Yes the jets are right - the coresponding needles are different too.
