Re: 57mm Pistons
How do you loose cam duration by shimming the cam carriers up?

Re: 57mm Pistons
The relationship between the cam lobe and the rocker arm can have an affect on cam timing. However, it is miniscule and all of our shimmed (shaved & shimmed) heads all run great (71hp to 74hp on a 400cc motor with stock pistons)RVF wrote:How do you loose cam duration by shimming the cam carriers up?

Re: 57mm Pistons
Thats my point, You dont loose anything. You'd have to not reshim it to loose duration.
We shim all the factory RVF750 engines cam carriers and tip the gear trains in the RC45 to get the right backlash clearances as well as mechining the heads and/or cases and dont loose any duration form doing it.

Re: 57mm Pistons
Piston Update:
Cosworth is designing and making our new pistons as we speak. I have been working directly with the Principal Engineer of Cosworth Ltd. We should be seeing 48 pistons (12 sets) in the next 4 to 6 weeks. Of those 12 sets, we will have 4 or 5 sets available for resale. The pistons are being made to use in 5 configurations:
Standard Stroke, Standard Rods 57mm = 428cc
(yes, you can use stock crank & rods, just bore the stock cases, rebalance the crank, rebuild and go!!!!)
Standard Stroke, +1.25mm Long Rods 57mm = 428cc
Standard Stroke, +3.00mm Long Rods 57mm = 428cc
Increased Stroke +2.50mm, Standard Rods 57mm = 454cc
Increased Stroke +2.50mm, +1.75mm Long Rods 57mm = 454cc
The will cost me approximately $1,000.00 USD per set of 4 which includes Pistons, Pins and Circlips.
Rings are not included in that price and they run about $250.00 USD per set of 4
If anyone is seriously interested I need to know in the next 2 weeks. I will need cash delivered by the time they bill me, so in about 5 weeks. Please speak up now. I believe I need to order 48 pistons everytime I get any made. So, it will be a long time before I ever get more made - if ever.
