the push rod being actuated by the worm drive, inside the front sprocket casing, which gets full of old oily lube + everything else that gets picked up by the wheel and chain and thrown in to the sprocket casing, which kills the worm drive.willandrip wrote:The pushrod clearance is the critical operation in this repair.
best way to clean one is soak in kerosene then give it the good news with the air line, their a right bugger to put back together, so i wouldn't advise taking it to bits, just clean and lube
if their not adjusted properly the pushrod will either engage and not disengage properly or the opposite, either way you'll think you got a bust clutch, when a bit of maintenance will sort it out
i cut a 10mm socket to take a spanner, so you can put a screwdriver through the socket to adjust the worm drive then hold in place whilst you tighten the socket, just nipped up on the screwdriver then back 1/4 of a turn and tighten with socket if memory serves
