Standard shock for me was 310mm eye to eye. My brand new nitron 3-way shock that was installed last week was 330mm eye to eye unadjusted from the factory. On the sidestand I measured from center of wheel straight up to the bottom of the fairing and got 395mm. This is with the standard 18" rear wheel. With a 17" wheel you wouldn't want the shock length to be any less than 330mm.

Hi, really sorry about the delay, I didn't realise how much crap was sat on me vfr after a couple a years a been sat!!! Anyway, the height to the back corner of the seat unit is about 34 inches unloaded and about 33 inches with bikes weight on suspension.

100% sure it was 330mm eye to eye. It did have me a little worried that it was too high but haven't had a chance to properly test the bike yet.

Sorry I never got around to taking measurements on a stock bike. Will get it done tomorrow.

Someone please correct me if im wrong and these figures are just an example but doesnt say +5mm on the shock equal say +15mm seat height? so if your adding 20mm to the shock that could be +60mm at the back!

Ive fitted a couple of nitrons to peoples NC's and none of them were 330mm, i think 320mm was the max adjustment and ive never run a shock that high

I think the ratio is magnified by the suspension linkage. When I wound on about 4mm preload last night, it lifted the ride height nearly 15mm measured at the rear of seat unit. This was static sag - without me sitting on bike

I thought so, so extending your shock to 330mm from 310mm is going to lift the rear 60mm!

I ordered my Nitron track shock from Rick Oliver, and asked for the extended version to suit 17" wheel. Pretty sure the build spec sheet said it was +15mm over stock. But I'm not sure if this means it was extended by 15mm or that it provides 15mm extra ride height. Working on the 3:1 ratio + 15mm would give a 45mm lift which seems a lot, where as 15mm lift on ride height will probably compensate for the smaller wheel size. Unfortunately I didn't compare the old/new shocks for length while I had them off the bike.

Just realised that a 45mm jack up would actually = 30mm, when you take into account the drop caused by the RVF wheel
