Hi Chris,
I'm based in bristol (at uni here) don't have my bikes here sadly. I use Krazy Katt's dyno in Bedford (2 stroke specialist). He is very good and knowledgeable.
Regarding the rev counter, is it a standard yamaha one? If so they tend to over read by about 10%.
If its a standard RR model the valve train is a bit heavier as well as the valve springs being softer. So they won't take huge revs without throwing a wobbler. (Hence the 14500 rev limit in the standard box).
