hi,why are the shocks so soft? i thought cause their on the r6 they would b alright,meaning bigger bike heavyer.

Its all to do with the linkage setup and lengths, the way the NC is setup means that a heavy spring is needed. Most 600's and even 1000's run softer springs than a NC

1- if the R6 shock is ~290 mm then it is no good. Far far too short. Everyone on here keeps banging on about shortening the pull arm (dog bones) but this is a bad idea to start with, even with a 304mm shock. The vfr400 has à sh1t link ratio to start and shortening the pull arm makes it way more progressive which is the problem in the first place.

With a 291mm shock you'd have to shorten your pull arm so much to get the ride height back the spring would foul the swing arm - even if it did not foul the swingarm at 14mm lower than stock you'd look like a custom cruiser with a lowered rear end draggin' yr burt.

I am no expert but, for sure, 291mm is too short. If you feel compelled to use the R6 shock, get the adapter to get the proper length. Stock is 305mm. For racing you may want to try longer. I am on that journey at the moment. Going from 8mm shorter pull arm on my NC30 to stock NC35 but with a longer shock (310mm).

hi all thanks for you views and help,ive bought shock adapter to go on the r6 shock im also gonna get another spring at the wk end,not messing about with the linkages.
