One more thing. I just realized that there is supposed to be some sort of snorkel at the front of the airbox. I just have a big hole there... Will the absence of the snorkel screw with my jetting? It seems the conventional wisdom is that the NC30 is sensitive to screwing around with the intake.

Possibly, yes.
Best to return the induction setup to standard in my opinion.

Yeah, but that would require finding one with reasonable shipping costs...
Also found that the carb 1 and 2 needle jets were exchanged as well. I sure hope it'll run on all 4 at all rpm after this overhaul as opposed to the sometimes 3 sometimes 4 it did before...

I see.
110 is the stock K model jetting as we probbaly mentioned.
Try it but normally if you mess about with the airbox it will buggar up the fuelling, see how it runs and how cleanly it pulls.
A small hicup at 7000rpm is normal and if you get it put a washer under the needles to richen up the mid-range but apart from that a well setup and clean set of carbs should pull cleanly from idle to redline.

And to round it out, the carb 1 and 2 needles were exchanged as well. This thing is pretty f.ed up...
