Gawd knows, I always figure the rear brake on a bike doesn't do much because all the weight is being pulled forward by the momentum of the bike, but I'd have thought that would help it lock. Mine has never locked, although if you press really hard it does do some work, just not as much as I'd expect. Still, it doesn't roll back down hills, and I'd rather not lock a wheel if it can be avoided. Generally, I only ever use the rear brake for hill starts, or if the weather is really, really bad....

Well, I managed to get it sorted.

I took the pads out - it was easy enough. They looked and smelt a little oily  , so I lapped them on a piece of wet and dry.

They certainly work better, but probably not as well as they did before. But then I'll need to bed them in again now, so hope it will get better still.

I've got to say, I am so pleased with this bike - I've had no horrible shocks when doing any work to it. All the bolts have been fairly easy to undo, showing that it's been well maintained. I've got to thank Dave the trucker and the previous owners for that, and CRM for selling it to me.

I had been wondering where that wee bike was now .

Glad it's gone to someone on here who can appreciate it and care and maintain it can honestly say it's one of the best nc30s I have had over the years . Owned by a mechanic in a Honda dealership since import looked after and unabused.

Now regret selling it but happy it's in good hands

Cheers, Dave, I'll do my best to look after it!

Brakes are good again now that they've bedded in. Do you happen to know when the valve clearances were last done though, as that is a job that may be on my list this winter?
