Hi
To check the level;
Lift up the front of the bike, adjust off any preload, remove the top caps and springs, lower the bike down so that the forks fully settle and measure from the top of the fork down to the oil.
If you dont know the history of the bike you should replace the fork oil, should be done at least once a year.
Put it back together as reverse of above, set sag as
Shown Here as Preload.
If you get the static sag right and the rider sag is wrong the springs are not correct for your weight, right static sag and too much rider sag = too soft springs, right static sag and not enough rider sag = too stiff springs.
Get the springing right for your weight and then adjust the damping for that spring.
regards
jon

After reading this post im now worried that my forks need some attention. as im having my o rings done on the front calipers in a weeks time i will get the forks set up as well then.
Sory if im hijacking a post here!! :)My bike is an Nc30 with the djustable preload and dampening on the top of the forks, I have done about 2000kms on the bike since i bought it but have no history of the bike so dnno if the oil has been changed so im guesing i should change it. What grade oil do i need and how much does anyone recommend?
I weigh 9 and a half stone, will this affect the amount ofg oil i should use?
At the moment my forks feel really really soft and when i brake at slow speeds my bike kind of bobs up and down a bit which is unsettling going into corners. Then agen this could be to a bent discs perhaps or but when i changed from crappy japanese pads to ebc pads it has reduced a little.
How do i harden the suspension, do i turn the preload clockwise and the dampening anticlockwise? im probably totally wrong there like!!
do u have to adjust the preload on each fork the same as you do the dampening, ie one anticlockwise turn on the dampening means one clockwise turn on the preload? i dunno, but i know i will be gettin myself a manual, lol
Any advice is much appreciate dudes and dudesses,
Dan
